NY organ trafficker admits buying kidneys in Israel for $10,000... and selling them in U.S. for $120,000

Lawyers for a man who pleaded guilty Thursday in the first ever federal conviction for illegal organ trafficking say he was performing life-saving services for severely ill people.

Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, from New York, admitted in a Trenton federal court to brokering three illegal kidney transplants for desperate New Jersey-based customers in exchange for payments of $120,000 or more.

I don't know, there does seem to be something ethically wrong with it. However, it does seem wrong denying a dying person in need a transplant the option of buying someone organ if they can't find a donor.

HOWEVER it could lead to a slippery slope.

First, with ripping off desperate people. Here the middleman found desperately poor Israelis to take $10K for a kidney and then turn around and sell it for $110K profit. There is something wrong there. Kidneys are worth more than that! Taking advantage of the poor and desperate in such a way is immoral.

Second, although this case was concentual, it could lead to nonconcentual cases. Think of the atrocities that happen in Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. A black market would form in these regions. Like the diamond mines, drug business, sex slave and kidnapping rings, human organs would fuel leftist revoluntaries, cartels, organized crime etc activities. Think of how Eastern European, Latin American and Asian women are exploited in the sex trade. Even closer to home you have homeless people, who can vanish and no one would really notice.

Third, what about the father or mother that will scarifice themselves (say give up their heart) for the sake of their family's well-being. The economy goes into the hole, what if a heart is valued at $1 mil. Some parents might scarifice their themselves for their family.
