In Afghanistan, a deadly Taliban trend emerges

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN -- In the worst loss of life for Western troops in ground combat with Taliban forces in Afghanistan, insurgents ambushed and killed 10 French soldiers and wounded 21 in a sustained assault outside the capital, military officials said Tuesday.

Separately, militants made an hours-long attempt to overrun a major U.S. base in southeastern Afghanistan, employing an unnerving new tactic: multiple suicide bombers, three of whom blew themselves up in succession and three others who were shot by the base's defenders, according to a military official.

Military commanders have been screaming for more resources since the war started in Afganistan but it falls on deaf ears. The only secure area is the capital. We can't seem to get anything right where our armed forces are concerned. We have the greatest fighting machine in the world and we end up being our own worst enemy. Unbelievable.

Certainly the worst POTUS in my lifetime.

I cannot think of a single area of American foreign policy or domestic that isn't in worse shape because of this Administration.

No kidding---Clinton would kicked all their asses with one hand tied behind his back.

Hey Duck! :eusa_hand: This is a joke right

The only Clinton that might be able to kick @ss is Hillary kicking Slick Willies! She just might be the only one in the family with "balls" :doubt:

And I don't like either of them! :eusa_shifty:

Or let the Predator drone fly around and not kill Osama Bin Laden. Or severely reduce our intel capabilities and armed forces.

Certainly the worst POTUS in my lifetime.

Let's look at Carter and the crisis he went through. JFK with the Bay of Pigs. Or the various attacks against the US while slick Willy was in office.

Bush's Other Failed War

You say it's a failed war and then support that statement with a link to the news report of French troops killed by a Taliban ambush. Sorry, I fail to understand your logic. How is it a failed war? Or do you not expect casualties in war?

You clearly have zero understanding of what is going on over there. :cuckoo:

Really? What do you base that assumption on Sealy? Having served with 3 Commando Brigade in 2006/7, I know more of what is going on over there than you and your kind ever will.

Seems your maker played a mean trick on you when he put your ass where your mouth should have been.

The situation in Afghanistan is that the US and NATO forces are stretched too thinly to provide maximum coverage. While the alliance has not suffered any military defeats, there are not enough troops to make progress in all parts of the country.

More troops are needed to hold cleared areas. Eventually, the holding phase will be performed by the Afghan security forces, but they're not ready to carry out that task yet. In the meantime the need is for three additional brigades. Without this extra strength, civil development will be slow.

It's about time some of the other NATO countries stepped up to the plate and pulled their weight!!!

Because idiot politicians are the ones who employ it, and want to play armchair general and make decisions better left to the professionals.

And that would be idiot politicians from BOTH parties, not just the Bush administration.

Why is it not shocking that it was the French Elite troops who were destroyed. How did Bush lose by French soldiers dying in my opinion chalk it up as a silent victory.

I'll never understand the france-hating, "freedom fries" wing of the republican party.

One day, they'll complain that the french are wussies who don't help us.

Another day, they'll cheer the deaths of french paratroopers killed in combat.

Worst. President. Ever.

Have we pulled out in defeat? We are still in Iraq and Afganistan so you really should not refer to it in the past tense. According to the returning soldiers I have spoke to we are destroying the enemy big time with few American losses. It is a slaughter in our favor so please explain where you see a failed war at either location.

All part of our obvious Anglophiac propensity, methinks.

No shortage of Francophbic idiots in this society, RD.
