WASHINGTON — For his first annual budget next week, President Obama has banned four accounting gimmicks that President George W. Bush used to make deficit projections look smaller. The price of more honest bookkeeping: A budget that is $2.7 trillion deeper in the red over the next decade than it would otherwise appear, according to administration officials.

Looking on the bright side--2.7 trillion makes the stimulus look small.

It would be nice if our government didn't have its own creative accounting system wouldn't it?

Bush's ADMIN was is NOT the first to play games with the numbers.

True enough, Editec, but I believe he has set the record.

Sure thing. Remind me again how Obama's plan to spend 3 TRILLION dollars over the next 4 years, over and above any regular budget is good when you keep complaining about Bush spending?

Think of it this way..........

Bush re-routed the plumbing of the economy into the Iraq war, which was pretty much drying things up for those further down the stream, meaning the VA, as well as the infrastructure, just to name a few.

Obama is trying to put it back to where it is supposed to be. But.....just like if you do regular plumbing, you're gonna get wet (ever have to dig up a water line?). And, if the repairs break, the leak is going to be severe.

I'll accept a little spillage for the first 6 months to a year.....

Lets just say this if Obama's plan doesnt work you can talk all you want. But until the world turns to that stuff beneath your shoe why complain you didnt when Bush was running earth shattering deficits. But you know what is so different about this during Bush the money was for other countries this time most of the money is for our country. Umm do you see it or do you have something to pull out of a hat.

No......his rep is real........it's just that after he gets bitch slapped all over the board, some people have pity on him and give him a little something.

His ideals and thoughts? Total fantastic rantings of a class A loon.

Bush this Bush that ....
It was the government that put us where we are and that includes fucking Democrats!!

Can Obama do as he wishes? ...... NO

Hey Pete, Bush fucked things up totally for eight years. Dems were far to compliant and complicit, but the buck is on Bush's desk.

things didn't start going south til 2006 the year you assholes took over,, talk about fucked up..

um.......if obama did nothing this down cycle would end......if he does something this down cycle will end......ether way he will get credit......so .....better to blame this mess on the previous admin.....do as much as possible and take credit for doing something and take credit for the natural recovery of the business cycle.....

The best way to get out of a situation like this is to spend more money. In the meantime, give the members of Congress a raise.

Well then maybe they will fall into the taxed bracket

In the mean time the rich get richer ... the poor get well richer. The rest of us ... screwed

Yeah right Bush screwed things up by givng us half as much crap as Obama is promising to give us.

For the mathematically challenged the amount of money per annum spent on the Iraq War and the whole war on terror for that matter is equal to less than 10% of the annual federal budget. So by all means continue to blame the ten percent and ignore the 90. The problem is that the federal govenmtn spends way the hell to much money AND IS INVOLVED IN FAR TO LARGE A PORTION OF OUR DAILY LIVES AND MOST OF THAT INVOLVEMENT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
