There is some speculation that Bush fueled the housing bubble in order to cover up what his policies were doing to the economy . . . in order to gain a second term.

We know the Democrats have always pushed for minority housing, but their policies have been in place for ages without much instability.

Did Bush go too far for political reasons?

I haven't thoroughly studied the Bubble-Burst of the economy yet, but I will say that since Bush took office is when I started seeing those "bad credit?!?!?!!? no credit?!?!?!?! doesn't matter!!!!!" gimmicks everywhere where literally everyone could get *some* sort of loan.

Home ownership is the cornerstone of a sound financial plan.

But buying a home that you can obviously not afford is finacial suicide.

That comes with a caveat that "home values appreciate." It's been true, and is cyclical, of course, but you never know any more. And, there's condos in Florida going for $25K.

Forward this to 6:15.....and, it transitions-into (exactly) what Londoner has shown.

I didn't know Bush was a socialist.

Using taxpayer money to help people with their down payments. Isn't that like redistibution of wealth?

Bush was an idiot puppet of the machine.
Even The Wall Street Journal admits Lil' Dumbya was clueless....

"Even the staunchly conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board understood it was Bush’s recession, writing in early 2009 that Bush’s comment that “Wall Street got drunk and we got a hangover,” “reveals how little the President comprehends about the source of his Administration’s economic undoing."

Yeah. Along with nationalizing education and a prescription drug plan for Medicare. All things you assholes on the Left wanted and then blamed Bush because they weren't generous enough.

As to the OP, bullshit. This has been well documented enough. Bernanke kept rates way too low. This created an incentive to make mortgage loans and sell the bonds from them overseas and to U.S. investors. Eventually they ran out of A credit borrowers and went deeper and deeper into the demographics. After about 18 months those loans went bad and it was an avalanche effect from there.

No, the theory is ridiculous.

Bush was an incompetent President, but he wasn't deliberately stoking a housing bubble to cover up his other policies.

The fact that he promoted home ownership is proof of nothing.

It is strange--and I do not mean to throw cold water on some good ol president bashing--but has anyone thought about how high fuel prices are the number one culprit that is sinking the economy?

And please do not say that high fuel costs are Bush fault--prices were marching upwards before Clinton left office.

To the left, please remember your main agenda here--focus on how to provide cheap alternative fuels. That is the major key in turning the economy around.

You cannot force the banks to give loans to people who cannot make the payments and expect good things to happen. Yes that was a dmocrat plan

Nobody cares about George Bush

Most baggers would re-elect Bush if they could.

I would.

But then again, I'd vote for the Cookie Monster right now over Obama.

And I mean that literally, not figuratively. Literally, if the actor who wears the Cookie Monster outfit on Sesame Street ran for president and wore that Cookie Monster outfit the entire campaign, I'd vote for him over Obama.

He'd probably be too incompetent to get anything done, but that would be far better than Obama getting what he wants done...done.

And on that very subject, Bush said to make loans to "QUALIFIED BORROWERS" ... that was in his first talking point Londoner

That was forced by the government long before Bush was President Community reenvestment act. Started by a democrat shored up by a democrat .
