Building on their job creation success, Papa Obama Plans Green Jobs Program: $135,294 Per Job

Investors.com:

The White House announced Friday the awarding of $2.3 billion in tax credits — the money comes from last year’s stimulus bill — to companies to create “green jobs.”

The announcement was rather obviously timed to counter the news that the nation lost 85,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate stayed at 10% — bad news for an administration that once promised to hold unemployment to 8% by the end of 2009.

Obama says the grants will create 17,000 cleantech jobs. Well, get out your calculator. $2.3 billion for 17,000 jobs equals $135,294 per job. (And that’s not including the eventual interest on this deficit spending). Those green jobs had better pay well over six figures to justify that expense.

Not to worry, the administration has a plan to solve this, too. It wants Congress to approve another $5 billion for “tens of thousands” more green jobs.

$134,000 invested per job is fairly cheap.

The capital investment to keep military industry workers at their tasks is much higher than that.

Can't seem to find the data online, but as I recall it was more than a million dollars per worker in most of the arms industry.

The capital investment for teachers, as I recall was about 25% of the capital investement in the MI complex.

Hey, that's just the way it is.

Some task are much more capital intensive than others.

Most gov't spend tends to be inefficient. The gov't can not really create wealth only move it around. As for the belief that this gov't spending or gov't speak "investment spending" will have some "multiplier" effects, we only need to look at Spain to see this might not be the case:

Job Losses From Obama Green Stimulus Foreseen in Spanish Study

March 27 (Bloomberg) -- Subsidizing renewable energy in the U.S. may destroy two jobs for every one created if Spain’s experience with windmills and solar farms is any guide.

For every new position that depends on energy price supports, at least 2.2 jobs in other industries will disappear, according to a study from King Juan Carlos University in Madrid.

U.S. President Barack Obama’s 2010 budget proposal contains about $20 billion in tax incentives for clean-energy programs. In Spain, where wind turbines provided 11 percent of power demand last year, generators earn rates as much as 11 times more for renewable energy compared with burning fossil fuels.

The premiums paid for solar, biomass, wave and wind power - - which are charged to consumers in their bills -- translated into a $774,000 cost for each Spanish “green job” created since 2000, said Gabriel Calzada, an economics professor at the university and author of the report.

“The loss of jobs could be greater if you account for the amount of lost industry that moves out of the country due to higher energy prices,” he said in an interview.

Can we now close the book once and for all on "Stimulus Packages" and Bailouts? Sadly,so much damage has already been done though. The Socialists really have sunk so many future generations. We need real change in this country. Time to say bye bye to the inept Socialists in both parties. Make 2010 count people. You can be heard.

If these "green jobs" were really viable economically, they would not need a government stimulus program to create them.
All this reminds me of the oil shale and synfuels projects of the Jimmy Carter era. Billions of wasted dollars on a pipe dream.
I always said that Obama would be teh Jimmy Carter of the 21st century. Sadly that is being borne out daily.

As usual,i'm sure the corrupt Liberal MSM will ignore this latest White House blunder. Look at how they cheerleaded for their "Cash for Clunkers" debacle. That program was proven to be an absolute failure and ended up costing Tax Payers way more than the program was worth. This is just another sad example of the Bush/Obama failed Stimulus/Bailout policies. How sad.

And how much does it cost for private industry to create jobs? A 100 million dollar plant might only employ a couple hundred people.
