Last time the public did something in its' own best interest was during World War 2 with rationing and top to bottom conservation. If you don't like the idea of nuclear power plants as ubiquitos as gas stations, cut back usage. Simple. Use energy efficient devices, unplug devices when not in use (since electrical appliances plugged in still draw some power, and added up nationally presents however much more demand,) and don't resist governmental policies designed to save energy and resources whining about your freedom. Fuck your freedom, this is for the planet boys and girls not your punk ass.

Coal consumption is increased to manufacture message upon miles of solar and wind power.

Nuclear power is needed to keep wind and solar operating, solar and wind require a constant source of power.

I am in the power industry and coal is the cheapest, most efficent form of energy we have and the most abundant. Clean burning of coal is on its way and has come a long way just in the last few years, if obama would get his foot off of clean coals dick, it would be here faster. No, it is not the cheapest, and definately not the most efficient. Wind is now cheaper, and solar soon will be. As the grid scale batteries are put into use, both will be 24/7. Coal mining scars the land, and kills the miners. It is dirty, and dangerous, and the quicker it ends, the better for all of us.
