When the mighty Mississippi broke the leeve in the "great flood" of 1927

The great blues guitarist Lonnie Johnson released this song.

Now that the people of the Delta are facing the same situation.

His song is having a revival.

Not quite sure what it has to do with global warming, but the Morganza has never been opened for its designed purpose until now. The only previous time it was opened they did it to save the Old River Control Structure, but the designed purpose was to save Baton Rouge and New Orleans and everything in between,

And it was built because the engineers knew it would be needed someday. I wonder how they knew that? Could it possibly be that because the Mississippi River floodplain is around 200 miles wide in that area that they thought that might be a clue as to how powerful the floods can be?

Naahhh, that would be logical and an example of common sense.
