In the nuclear age, as was the case with battleships and destroyers, you don't get any additional deterence by having lots of them if your enemy has any nuclear weapons. Britain isn't worried about a tank invasion.

The Brit monarchy is about bloodlines rather than intelligence or integrity. Every monarch from fat Henry on down had some sort of mental or socio-sexual problem. Prince Chuck and Lady Di stand out for their personal problems. It would be fine if they weren't almost entirely supported by hard working taxpayers. Don't know about the U.S. forces, but the Free French, Poles, and other units certainly did, on the eastern side of the drive up the peninsula, and the Germans used them extensively on every front all through the war. If the U.S. had many I've never seen the pics. The British Indian sappers and bridge engineers units used a lot of them.

If they did bring the jobs back the prices would go up and people would still by the imports because they are cheaper We are high tech now, all you have to do is compare the total bills for watching TV and using the phone to see the advantage of High tech.

Well, UK's main source of income was colonies. Now that the colonies are gone,they just simply do not have resources to maintain large armed forces. It will actually get worse as they run of money they amassed from colonial era loots. It is what it is. One good thing that will come out of this is that we won't have to worry about UK colonizing anybody in foreseeable future. This is a good news for mankind.
