British judge orders disabled 22-week pregnant woman to have abortion

A British judge ordered Friday that an abortion be performed on a mentally disabled woman who is 22 weeks pregnant, despite objections from the woman and her mother.

Justice Nathalie Lieven admits in the ruling of the “heartbreaking” case that it’s an “immense intrusion” to order the abortion against the woman’s will, but argued that it’s in the best interest of the woman.

“I am acutely conscious of the fact that for the State to order a woman to have a termination where it appears that she doesn't want it is an immense intrusion,” the justice said. “I have to operate in [her] best interests, not on society's views of termination."

She is under the care of the state which means her Ma gave the state the rights as her managing conservator..

What a sad case. I agree with the judge, though. This girl has the mental capacity of a 6-9 year old. She doesn't actually have the ability to make a sound decision on whether she wants the baby. She has no concept of what that decision means. The baby would definitely end up in foster care and the girl would be even more upset about that, and not understand. Picture trying to teach a 6 year old how to parent an infant.

I don't understand though why they are not letting the grandmother adopt. I guess because she terminated her rights to her daughter, she has no legal standing? What a heartbreaking case. Hard decision for the judge and I respect her for doing what was right instead of what would sound good.

AND WHY DID THIS GIRL NOT HAVE A TUBAL LIGATION YEARS AGO?

Her mother said she would take care of the child. My guess, knowing how Big State works; the Brits are afraid (or already know) the child may have disabilities, and they will have to pay for the child for the duration of their life, and/or pay the grandmother to take care of the child.

You see, in socialist states, essentially Atheist states where government is God (and government rarely if not never invokes God), it never boils down to right or wrong, ethically or just.

Why are you calling Great Britain a socialist state? Just because they have universal health care?

Can't they order a late term abortion on the judge?

One among many policies and philosophies. They are slightly less socialist than most of Europe, except as it pertains to state control of citizens, an old habit that has been tough to shake from their monarchy days. In fact, when WW2 started the British were far more advanced than America was in regards to spying, and nefarious covert tactics against states and citizens.

Canada is the direct descendants of the Brits, we were a convenient launching ground nation for the Brits to use to "keep an eye on America". We have a very similar system with some areas more of a hybrid of the American system, though in Ontario we are basically just mirrors of NY and Cali. on most issue, including and especially role of government. I imagine as well, role of the covert police state.
