British healthcare...now rationing hearing aids.....the wheels are coming off and we want that system here....government controlled healthcare is a disaster and we have people who don't understand that....they base their good feelings on the healthcare systems of tiny, wealthy countries who have no defense spending and rely on the U.S. To protect them.......and even their systems are collapsing....

So far The VA in America is providing veterans with TWO hearing aids but, as a friend who got his from VA informs, only ONE works.

The VA gave me two, but one of them quit working in a week. I mailed it back to them, they fixed it, and both of them have worked just fine for the last 6 months. They also gave me a 6 months supply of batteries and just before I ran out, I ordered and got another 6 month supply. No problem here.

I don't think that private health insurance or Medicare pay for hearing aids.

We ration them here too, only more severely -- Medicare and most private payers don't cover them at all. You might find a policy that pays a few hundred toward the several thousand dollar cost of good units. Just more ignorant right wing BS.

Seeing more and more "Personal Amplification Devices" advertised. Ads are very specific that these are NOT sold as "Hearing Aids". Only know one person who tried a pair. Says they're as good as but no better than the pair for which he paid over $5,000 and which, after three years and five "repairs" were deemed "beyond economic repair".

Until they come here on their own money to get procedures done that they can't get in their own country because of waiting lists, or too old for the procedure...or they just don't have the technology to do it the way we do.....for example...the Canadian politician who came to America for heart surgery because of the waiting list, and the fact that the Canadian doctor told him they would have to crack his chest to do the procedure....he came here and in a matter of days they had performed the procedure by going through his armpit...his recovery was half that as proposed by the chest cracker....

Yeah....until they need the most advanced medicine to save their lives....they are more than happy with second class medicine......

I think the point was that the British have single payer, and if we go to single payer the cost cutting could possibly do the same thing. That is, if we got single payer in the US and they even paid for hearing aids to begin with as the British did.
