British Army Double Amputee Is Refused NHS Treatment

To refuse veterans under the system who need care from serving is a disgrace.....................

Just as our VA is a disgrace to our wounded veterans....................Dying, waiting to be seen...............Not to mention having to travel long distance to be seen with long lines hoping to see a doc.............................

The Gov't is good at screwing shit up........and then come up with excuses of why they are incompetent.

Do you even bother to read the damn story? No? Of course not.
The former sergeant was informed by staff at the Sussex rehabilitation centre that his treatment would be stopped because he had osseointegration surgery, not available on the NHS.
Sussex Community NHS Trust have insisted that their decision was based solely on the official rules before confirming that it would be happy to make an exception and continue treating Mr Baldwin.
An NHS spokesman confirmed that an independent investigation into the risk of the treatment willl be carried out.
'This is a new technique with potentially significant life-threatening complications which have to be fully understood to avoid risking patient safety', the spokesman said.
Osseointegration is a relatively new procedure, pioneered by Munjed al-Muder, an Australian surgeon who has carried out the operation around 150 times.
The technique require the fusing of special metal implants into the surviving injured limb. Made out of titanium, the implant are then combined with special adaptors which serve as the new joints.

It's a relatively new procedure that is potentially risky and the NHS is treating him anyway.

I could care less if it's experimental..........or new technology.............It is obvious the man was trying to improve his quality of life. They shouldn't have refused him for basic treatment even if it isn't part of the NHS............Perhaps the NHS needs to go learn the new tech to see if they can do it as well..................

But that would make too much sense............Our VA is gov't run.............and vets are DYING to get to be seen......................Gov't red tape and bs for our own veterans already.................

Under Obamacare the rates have went ZOOM ZOOM...........gov't in action........hitting the public in the pocket book for fucked up legislation..........saying it would save everyone money..............only a Moonbat Liberal would still believe that.

Report: One-third of vets on pending medical care list already dead

An internal Veterans Affairs Department report states that about one-third of the veterans waiting to receive medical care from the agency have already died.

A review of veteran death records provided to the Huffington Post found that, as of April, 847,822 veterans were awaiting healthcare and that of those, 238,647 were already deceased.

The report was handed over by Scott Davis, a program specialist at the VA's Health Eligibility Center in Atlanta
He also sent copies to the House and Senate VA panels and to the White House.

A VA spokeswoman told Huffington Post that the department can’t subtract dead applicants from the list and that some may never have completed an application but remain on the back log.

Spokeswoman Walinda West also said that more than 80 percent veterans who come to the department "have either Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare or some other private insurance.”

“Consequently, some in pending status may have decided to use other options instead of completing their eligibility application."

Davis dismissed that argument.

"VA wants you to believe, by virtue of people being able to get health care elsewhere, it's not a big deal. But VA is turning away tens of thousands of veterans eligible for health care," he said. "VA is making it cumbersome, and then saying, 'See? They didn't want it anyway.'"

When did we start talking about the underfunded VA?

This entire thread is discussing an individual in regards to the NHS, I did not bring up the VA, which is underfunded, at all.

Funny how ever single failed fascist program is "underfunded", rather than simply a piss poor program that shouldn't exist.

How, exactly, is the VA fascist? And what do you propose would happen to the vets without a program like the VA?

Roll it back under control to the Department of Defense.....................and let them manage the system...............instead of a bunch of political hacks......

Unlike the administration under the VA........the DOD would take care of their own....................Not to mention they would have more access to Military Hospitals and Clinics. The mismanagement of the VA is utter BS.
