He can shoot back....which he can't do if he doesn't have a gun. If they all have guns, and he has a gun, he can still shoot them....which he wouldn't be able to do if only they had a gun...his chance of surviving is better if he as a gun no matter how you look at it.....without a gun, he is a victim even when they only have a board with nails in it....
