Brit nurse suicide over phone call

Hoax station to donate to family...

Kate hoax: Radio station to donate to nurse family
11 December 2012 - Jacintha Saldanha's family visited the hospital in London after meeting Keith Vaz MP
The Australian radio station whose DJs made a hoax call to a nurse who was later found dead is to give at least £320,000 to a fund for her family. ...

The DJ's radio station is only responsible for the hoax call - not the suicide.

The suicide does not reasonably follow from a hoax call to a competently run hospital. The problem was the hospital was not well run - it had a suicidal nurse on duty - that is bad management.

So the cost of compensating the suicide falls on those responsible for the suicide - not on those responsible for the hoax call.

The responsibility for the suicide is purely :-

  • the fault of the kingdom for having royals in the first place when by rights the country should be a republic with no royals, no royal pregnancies and no interest in hoax calls
  • the fault of the royal couple for choosing that hospital when they could have gone somewhere which didn't employ suicidal nurses
  • the fault of the hospital for employing a suicidal nurse in a role she was not fit for.
  • but mostly the fault of the nurse who topped herself though she can't pay her own family compensation now she is dead

So it is absurd that the DJs' radio station are paying compensation when the fault is with the kingdom for having royals, and the royal couple for using that hospital and the hospital for employing that nurse in a role she was not suitable for.

If anyone should pay up compensation it is Prince William (Duke of Cambridge) who should sell all his wedding presents and pay the proceeds to the family of the nurse and donate his civil list payments he has received as a married man to the family of the nurse. (Then Prince William should go into exile and never come back to Britain).

The most likely scenario would be either the person on the phone playing along and everyone having a laugh, or the person on the phone simply hanging up on them and them shrugging it off. That's all.

If that was the case they would not even bother to call. What they wanted was to find someone dumb enough to believe them. Then they could humiliate and mock the person and the result would be to get them fired for releasing private information

Shock Jocks live off of mocking other people. If they get fired when their cruelty goes overboard it is the least that can happen

Definitly gotta agree with the bold. I doubt they wanted anyone to be fired.

What did they think would happen if the person they tricked on the phone gave out personal information and they blared it over and over on their radio station?

This is unbelievable. As pranks go this was excruciatingly mild. The information given by the nurse wasn't private or sensitive. It wae the same information available in any press release. The over reaction is more of a story than the story itself.

It's hard to get through the Brit media B.S. so I guess we will have to wait until the story plays itself out. It's interesting that a lot of people blame the poor nurse who obviously can't defend herself. The Brits are hurting economically just like we are but they continue to support the birthright of the royal family like a damn soap opera.

Britain makes a rather sizeable profit out of the royal family, so what's the problem?

What profit do Brit taxpayers see from the Royal Family? Tourism? You can stuff the Queen Mother and put her behind a glass case and get the same tourism without supporting prince Chuck and the gaggle of nut cases.

The royal family serves as the equivalent of pets. They don't really serve any function but are fun to have around

London is a giant tourist town with the biggest attraction being the royal family.
A lot of to do to us but not to them.

She didnt have "morning sickness".

It's a shame the woman took this so ard. It would likely have quietly gone away.

The royal family and the kingdom get in the way of establishing republics and electing presidents to do the job of holding the state to account and making sure constitutional freedoms are respected.

Right now the Queen's ministers, judges and police can abuse the people any way they like and we are not allowed a president to take us to war against the domestic enemy.

Saying the royal family don't really serve any function is like saying the pretzel you are choking on doesn't really serve any function.

The royals stop us getting freedom like the pretzel in your wind-pipe stops you breathing freely.

We Britons, Scots, English, Welsh & Irish could really do with some help with getting these royals out.

But Diane Sawyer on ABC World News is not going to tell Americans that. No - she is just going to give you the news about the royal fucking baby.

The problem is that it wasn't even the nurse who gave out the info who killed herself, it was the one who transferred the call!

The one who killed herself was an unstable woman.

Period, nobody else to blame but her.

If people killed themselves is nobody's fault but themselves!

are they going to blame the world for their stupidities too?

no way!

DJ's off the hook...

UK: No charges for Australian royal hoax DJs
Feb 1,`13 -- British prosecutors said Friday they will not press charges against two Australian DJs over the royal hoax call that preceded a nurse's suicide.
Two Australian DJs impersonated Queen Elizabeth II and her son, Prince Charles, as they phoned London's King Edward VII hospital in December to ask about the condition of the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly Kate Middleton, who had been hospitalized for treatment of acute morning sickness stemming from her pregnancy. Nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who put the call through to a colleague who in turn described the details of Kate's condition, was found hanged in her room three days after the prank was broadcast across the world.

Prosecutors on Friday said there was no evidence to support a charge of manslaughter, and despite "some evidence" to warrant further investigation of offenses under Britain's Data Protection Act and Malicious Communications Act, any potential prosecution would not be in the public interest. The Crown Prosecution Service said that decision was taken because it isn't possible to extradite from Australia for those potential offenses, and because "however misguided, the telephone call was intended as a harmless prank."

DJs Michael Christian and Mel Greig - apologized after Saldanha's death in emotional interviews on Australian television, saying they never expected their call would be put through. The radio show behind the call, the "Hot 30" program, was taken off air following Saldanha's death and later canceled.

Two Australian DJs obviously violated Britain's domestic telecommunications law by making a prank call to extract information concerning the royals but that was not serious enough to charge them internationally with those offences. The Indian nurse had a history of depression and she made previous suicide attempts, which ruled out manslaughter charges against them as well and perhaps working regular night shift rotations as a registered nurse in a foreign country for a decade took a toll on her mental health.
