Bristol has boy

Congratulations to the Palin and Johnston families on the birth of Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston!

Delivered this past Saturday, Tripp - the son of Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston – weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces. Bristol is the oldest daughter of former Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin.

Palin and Johnston are reportedly considering a summer wedding.

Baby Tripp is Governor Palin’s first grandchild.

When news broke about the pregnancy of then 17 year-old Bristol on the first day of the Republican National Convention, Governor Palin and her husband, Todd, issued a statement saying they are "proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents."

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family," the Palins assured.

Johnston subsequently told The Associated Press the two had planned to get married even before Bristol became pregnant.

Being an ardent supporter of abstinence and opponent of sex education in public schools, it would naturally be assumed that her daughter’s pregnancy would be an embarrassing political bombshell that would derail the McCain-Palin ticket before it had even left the station.

To the contrary, it made Palin more human and appealing; both for sharing the difficult situation confronting families across the nation and for addressing it with a love and emphasis on family that finds blessings even in trying circumstances. Palin’s decisions and actions said unequivocally, “Principals matter and are not situational.”

Palin’s principled and unapologetic defense of Bristol is but one of the many reasons her addition to the Republican presidential ticket energized the Party’s until then uninspired and lethargic base.

Palin remains a Conservative darling despite the ticket’s resounding electoral loss and is often mentioned as a potential challenger for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

Tripp follows in the Palin family tradition of unique and distinctly memorable names.

Among the Palin children are Track, Trig, Bristol, Willow and Piper.

One wonders why the couple didn’t choose the obviously perfect Palin praenomen, Maverick.

Along those lines, have you ever wondered what your name might be if you were born into the Palin family?

If so, then go to the Sarah Palin Baby Name Generator and see what might have been.

This is Jeep Pike Palin signing off for now, faithful readers! Stay tuned for further updates as events warrant and the Palin platoon continues to produce foot soldiers for the inevitable march on Washington.

Stay tuned? This isn't a radio station. This isn't a TV station. There's nothing to tune into. You post about once every other month, are we supposed to sit around and do nothing waiting for your next rant?
