Helicopters attack border point with Iraq: Syria - Yahoo! News

DAMASCUS (Reuters) – Syria said on Sunday unidentified helicopters attacked a Syrian border point with Iraq, causing casualties.
The official Syrian news agency SANA did not identify the helicopters but said the attack took place in the Bou Kamal border area, in eastern Syria.
Residents said the attack targeted a house in the area in which a man and his four sons and two nearby workers were killed.

BBC NEWS | Middle East | 'US aircraft attack Syria border'
American helicopters have carried out an attack inside Syria along its border with Iraq, Syrian media says.

The official Syrian news agency Sana said the raid took place in the Abu Kamal border area, in eastern Syria.

It quoted residents as saying that the attack targeted a house in the area in which a man and his four sons and two workers died. There is no confirmation.

Another report, by the private TV channel Al-Dunia, said that nine people had been killed and 14 wounded.

It said that an unknown number of American helicopters attacked the village of al-Sukkiraya, east of the capital. It did not say when the attack happened.

"We are in the process of investigating this," Sgt Brooke Murphy, a US military spokesman, told the AFP news agency in Baghdad.

The US military has complained in the past that Syria is the main transit point for foreign militants crossing into Iraq.

Washington has accused Damascus of turning a blind eye to the problem.

you didn't even question the story did ya? newp

I don't like Drudge, but he doesn't post bogus stories. This is also being posted through the AP and Reuters and just crossed FoxNews and MSNBC both.

The story so far is that American soldiers landed in Syria from helicopters. If that's true, that is an official invasion of Syrian territory.

Syria: US choppers attacked targets on our soil, near Iraq | Israel | Jerusalem Post

US military helicopters attacked an area along Syria's border with Iraq Sunday, causing casualties, Syrian state TV and witnesses said.
The television report quoted unnamed Syrian officials and said the area is near the Syrian border town of Abu Kamal. It gave no other details.
Local residents told The Associated Press by telephone that two helicopters carrying US soldiers raided a farm in Hwijeh village, 10 miles (17 kilometers) inside Syria's border, killing seven people and wounding five others. One of the witnesses said five of the dead were from a single family.
The residents refused to allow their names to be given because they feared they would be harassed by authorities.
The US military in Baghdad had no immediate comment.
The area is near the Iraqi border city of Qaim, which had been a major crossing point for fighters, weapons and money coming into Iraq to fuel the Sunni insurgency.
Iraqi insurgents seized Qaim in April 2005, forcing US Marines to recapture the town the following month in heavy fighting. The area became secure only after Sunni tribes in Anbar turned against al-Qaida in late 2006 and joined forces with the Americans
