Breaking News: In Defiance Of Israel, Palestine Granted Statehood By U.N. Vote

Vanishing the Palestinians

by GHADA KARMI

When the Zionists decided in 1897 to establish a Jewish state in Palestine, the Jews of Vienna despatched a delegation to examine the country for its suitability. The delegation reported back as follows: "the bride is beautiful but she is married to another man". They had found that Palestine to their dismay was already inhabited by another people. And this has been Zionism’s central problem ever since. How to "vanish the Palestinians" and get an empty land? The latest manifestation of this imperative is the barrier wall, which Israel is currently building to separate and enclose Palestinian towns and villages in the lands it occupied after 1967. There are those who rightly point to the wall’s illegality and infringement of human rights. And the International Court of Justice has just affirmed this view resoundingly in its ruling, passed on 9.7.04 by 14 of the 15 judges, that the wall was an illegal structure when in the occupied Palestinian territories and that Israel would have to tear it down and make restitution for the damage it has caused to thousands of Palestinians. This position is entirely valid, but critics, in my view, have missed one crucial aspect of the wall’s purpose, which is, to "vanish" the Palestinians, to make them so invisible that Israelis can go on pretending that there is no "other man".

This will surely upset many Israeli's. The U.N. ignored Israels request to not grant them formal statehood but they were overruled. 138 of 193 General Assembly members voted "yes"

What's with the "in defiance of Israel" crap? Israel is only one nation, Israel is NOT the boss of the other nations.
"de·fi·ance (d-fns)
n.
1. The act or an example of defying; bold resistance to an opposing force or authority."

This is a step in the right direction and should have been done a long time ago. Hopefully this is a step toward peace and mutual respect.

Isn't it just practical? How can you have a people with no country? Shit, I'm as racist as they come, but even I don't deny that all peoples should at least have a country of their own to live in.

To deny someone that is really pretty obnoxious, but hey, that's our Jews, eh?

Israel is a bully.

Meanwhile Hamas rains thousands of missiles rockets and mortars on civilian targets FROM civilian targets. Now that they are a State if they do it again Israel can declare war, invade and hold said Country until it's Government can stop the attacks.

Or better yet, declare war, invade and annex all captured territory.

Thousands of "missiles rockets and mortars on civilian targets" launched and thousands of Israeli's killed, oh wait, only 3 maybe 4 Israeli's killed by that reign of terror. Pathetic!

OK, so the PA violated their agreement in the Oslo accords. No one talks about this because Palestinians violating their promises is a regular feature.
Second, there already was a Palestinian state declared. It's called Jordan. That's UN Resolution 181.
Third, which Palestine is it? Is it the one run on the west bank by the criminal Fatah organization or the one in Gaza run by the terrorist Hamas org?
Nothing will change except Palestinians will become more impoverished.
