UPDATE 1

The Department of Justice announced that former Iowa State Sen. Kent Sorenson pleaded guilty Wednesday to concealing payments he received from former Rep. Ron Paul’s presidential campaign in exchange for his support.

UPDATE 2

In the plea deal, Sorenson admits that he switched his support from Rep. Michele Bachmann to RP after meeting secretly with the campaign and negotiating payments that amounted to $73,000, according to DOJ officials.

DOJ officials said the payments were doled out in monthly installments of $8,000 and were concealed by “transmitting them to a film production company, then through a second company, and finally to Sorenson and his spouse.”

With the people Ron Paul had running his campaign in 2012, this is not particularly surprising.

More proof that right-wingers are inherently corrupt.

Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.

Can't wait.

Snide jokes about the voluminously privileged, weight-enhanced, and Fatfrican-American communities are not appreciated in the least.

I do not think Republicans have a monopoly on corruption, Blago comes to mind.
You didn't even give his partisan nonsense a chance. For shame.

Note: If Jesse Benton is snared in the developing scandal, it will also be a problem for Mitch McConnell, since Benton, who hasn't been heard from in some time, is technically still McConnell's camapign manager---and it is still not clear how Kesari may spin any connection he may have had with the Rand Paul 2010 Senate campaign. Kesari is most assuredly under pressure to co-operate with the government.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out for Rand and McConnell. Whether Benton was directly involved in this payoff remains to be seen, but it doesn't look good for him.
