I met him, several times. He had a friend (yes even charlie had friends) named Mary Neiswender who intended on doing a book about him. I knew Mary quite well. When she would go see him, from time I time I tagged along. I would not say he was mesmerizing. Perhaps I also spent too much time with Doris Tate. He had eyes though, that you felt looked through you and saw the wood grain of the wall behind you.
