There should be an immediate tax of $5 a barrel on all oil produced offshore, or shipped into the US, with the resulting monies to go building government facilities and equipment capable of handling a spill like this. Until there is the capability of sealing an underwater blowout within days, there should be no offshore drilling allowed. The Exxon Valdez disaster showed that we were not prepared for a large spill from that source, either. Time to remedy those defiencies.

If you want people to change you have to hit them in the pocket book. In this case the only way to make BP care about the environmental impact is to hit them in the pocket book.And since We The People are going to the the ones footing the bill for the disaster BP should be paying We The People for as long as there is environmental impact. Sorta of an incitive to clean up their shit faster and make amends don't you think, having to provide free gasoline to American citizens until its ALL cleaned up.

BP doesn't CARE about the wildlife, the do care about their bottom line.
