Bomb Threats at Pitt

Since Feb. 13, dozens of threats have been made, causing scores of building evacuations throughout the Oakland campus. More bomb threats were received early Saturday as well, affecting numerous buildings.

Other than the first half-dozen or so threats, which were scrawled in women's and men's restrooms, most have been emailed to Post-Gazette reporters covering the case.

On Wednesday, FBI agents in New York City seized a server used by an Internet service provider in Europe through which at least three of the anonymous emailed bomb threats passed.

The Internet hosting service May First/People Link said threats were sent through one of its servers used by the European Counter Network, or ECN, an Italian Internet provider that allows users to send anonymous emails. The organization's leaders have said they believe ECN was hacked for criminal purposes.

I can only imagine what these students and parents have been going through.

Initially, they were investigating a transgender couple who had a lawsuit against the school. They've been cleared.

Now the FBI has seized computers from some left wing organization that allows radicals to hide their ISPs.

OWS is not happy with this. Hmmmm.

If the Mixmaster anonymizing software on that server was working correctly, there'd be nothing on the server to help the FBI track down the bomb threats. But they did know that there are a lot of other users of that server, activists of many a stripe who relied upon it.

This is the on-line equivalent of macing a bunch of peaceful students just because they're protesting. It's force for power's sake rather than for justice's sake.

OWS assholes. There is nothing "peaceful" about bomb threats. And, there is no guaranteed privacy on the net.

If they didn't make the threats, then they have nothing to worry about as far as inspecting the server they use. ANYONE who has an expectation of privacy on the net is a moron, and OWS members being morons doesn't surprise me at all.
