and the bola will also catch domestic pigs, horses, etc. if you can't find big stones for the 3 ends of the bola cords, then you can make pouches and fill them with sand or pepples. All you need is the weight, you see, to make the cords "fly" well when thrown, and to spread out and entangle the animal's legs. small bolas can work on waterfowl, domestic turkeys, chicken, etc, too. If you've got a roll of twine, you can make dozens of the small game bolas. Bigger critters require that you use paracord for your bolas.

snared cattle and horses make a lot of noise, belloring and neighing, so be ready to put an arrow, spear, or stone headed club in their brain. Naturally, this sort of harvesting is mostly done at night. A slingbow, (slingshot with whisker bisket for shooting arrows) takedown broadhead arrows (Dave Canterbury's store) and a bow-trigger device (for holding back the sling tension, make for a compact, lw device for harvesting cattle and the like.

Forget about taking small critters with slingshot and stones, cause the rocks don't fly straight. You have to roll the stones in clay, between flat surfaces and bake them in your fire. Arrows make much better projectiles than stones, cause they fly straighter, further, and have much more effect when they strike.

cows don't take much stalking and one big one can mean 500 lbs of jerky buried in your drums, in a very few days. Beats the hell out of stalking rabbits all day with stones and slingshots, and maybe getting ONE rabbit. :) But the livestock will all be GONE, eaten by people and dog packs, within a week or 2 of shtf. So you'll have to be ready to act swiftly. Cats are easily taken in box traps (which can be made in half an hour each,, with sticks and netting. Dogs are easily snared, too. Some dogs are big enough to result in 30 lbs of jerky. So your traps and snares can bring in results for up to a month, post shtf. if you don't want to have to become a cannibal (or suicide) better have some food preps. If you cant afford the $1000's of $ needed to store grain and legumes, etc, for a family, then you'd better prep in other ways.

yes, it's stealing, so what? we're talking about life and death here. The legit owner of that cow is probably dead (or will be, in short order) and somebody else, or some dog pack, will eat the cow instead of you, and your family will starve. so it's your decision. Maybe you aint GOT the time and money to prep "properly" ?
