Boehner: 'Obamacare is the law of the land'

Yup Anyone who thinks Obamacare is going to be cheaper and better is deluded.

The Govt will have its big fat hand in your HC.

The Govt that has never run anything cheaply or well.

can you explain what it is you think the government will be doing?

do you think they will be examining people and prescribing medication?

yes, they will, because most of the doctors are going to opt out, just like small business is opting out. unless of course you plan to make the doctor practice with a loaded gun at his temple.

He's already backed off from that statement.

I'll never understand why the Republicans didn't simply embrace the plan - it is, after all policy-by-policy the same plans pushed by the conservative Heritage Foundation for years, and adapted, not to mention implemented, by Mitt Romney in Massachusetts. OH REALLY? ROMNEY ROBBED MEDICARE OF 716 BILLION DOLLARS TO PAY FOR HIS HEALTH CARE PLAN? WHO THE FUCK KNEW?

When the Democrats still were pushing for universal health care, this was the Republican alternative. It would have probably been best to actually co-opt the plan and take credit for it (ie, depriving Obama of the credit); their aforementioned presidential candidate would have been able to run on his most significant achievement as an executive.

But it appears this is impossible in the face of the rabid opposition of the far right of the Republican Party, which is convinced that it must oppose everything and anything that Obama does - even when he does things they agree with! This created many awkward moments for Mitt Romney during the general election, which taking stock of economic conditions should have been a Republican landslide.

What makes you think they won't resort to this? I mean, there won't be any actual gun. It'll be all 'tax incentives' and 'penalties' - but I don't doubt they'd resort to coercion to get their way. They certainly don't have any qualms coercing consumers into buying insurance.

Its going to be very interesting to sit back and watch the next four years.

Hope the country can survive it.

Yep,, the party of choice gave us no choice! Ain't it fucking cool?

I personally don't care anymore. It's what they voted for. They won. They deserve what they get be it good or be it bad.

Except that's not what happened at all. What you are talking about is that payments to insurance companies were cut by 716 billion dollars over the next 10 years. I thought that's what you republicans were all about, cutting wasteful government spending?

Or maybe you just liked the Ryan/Romney plan better, which would have cut Medicare by the exact same amount - except the cuts were towards benefits, and not towards cutting excessive payments to insurance companies.

I don't think it's as simple as that. The Republicans are hypocritical, to be sure, but the reason for changing their rhetoric regarding the mandate is because it turns out voters don't like being sold out to the insurance industry. The party's position is purely political, and I doubt more than a handful of them have any real, principled opposition to the mandate, but that doesn't mean the voters views aren't legitimate.

I don't think we can count on either of the major parties to get us out of this one. It's going to take a serious grassroots movement and I'm not sure our population has that much 'fighting spirit' left. We'll see.

I don't quite see it that way - Republicans and their media groups went all out attacking the plan - any plan, even before details were known about it - because it was being proposed by this president. They built opposition to the plan, and very effectively I might add, while the Democrats literally gave up immediately, as they often do.

Now I don't believe this is a particularly great plan, but it was nevertheless a 'bi-partisan' plan... up until this president proposed it, then it became overwhelmingly socialist take-over of health care according to every Republican in the country.

I think you're overestimating their power to manufacture opinion. Sure there are partisans who will pick up any excuse to slam the opposition, but I also think there is good deal of genuine resentment at being forced into a corporate controlled solution.

The way I see it, both parties support the basic goal of the plan. Both parties are corporatist in nature and want government to have as much control over society as possible. Both of them are eager to 'share power' with corporate interests to achieve dominance. And both of them want the limited-government types to shut up and go away.

So, yeah - it was bi-partisan. I'm just not seing that as a good thing.

Obamacare has been the law of the land for a short while.

Good thing that The Bonehead can keep up.

now Boner says he needs a year to put a fiscal package together? wtf?

They had two years to do so. What are the GOP House leaders doing with all the time and tax payers money they collect if they need another year?

oh, and pardon me for thinking badly -- but Boner's year is 2013 -- closer to election campaign time for House seats

Ahh, I see the point you are making and mostly agree. It is very clearly a corporate plan and I certainly would have said it was the ideal plan. And yes, a big chunk (I wouldn't say the majority, but a considerable chunk) of the 50-60% of people who oppose the plan are certainly in the same wavelength, that it didn't go far enough. But many more are swept by the extreme propaganda put forth by the proponents (death panels, socialism, etc), and some others (I would say a minority) are libertarians who very truly and deeply believe that it is a bad idea and would oppose it whether proposed by Republicans or Democrats.

Boehner: 'Obamacare is the law of the land' - NBC Politics

Updated 6 p.m. ET - Republicans' efforts to undo President Barack Obama's health care reform law appear to have come to an end, as House Speaker John Boehner described it Thursday as the "law of the land."

You should try the whole quote unless you want to be seen as a dishonest partisan hack... oh.. too late for that huh?

"@SpeakerBoehnerObamaCare is law of the land, but it is raising costs & threatening jobs. Our goal has been, and will remain, #fullrepeal."

Health Care Regulations

"Starting in January, insurers will be unable to charge consumers more based on such factors as health status and occupation."

Obama and his crew have his followers believing everything will be OK once he gets the Bush tax cuts
taken care of...

This will be interesting to see how they act when it's evident that's not the case.

You GOP'ers are surprised by this? Boner has always been in the pay of the liberals.

No matter how you want to discuss it, obamacare is unintentionally funny.

Surprise: PA College Slashes Instructors' Hours to Avoid Obamacare

Pennsylvania's Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is slashing the hours of 400 adjunct instructors, support staff, and part-time instructors to dodge paying for Obamacare.
"It's kind of a double whammy for us because we are facing a legal requirement [under the new law] to get health care and if the college is reducing our hours, we don't have the money to pay for it," said adjunct biology professor Adam Davis.
On Tuesday, CCAC employees were notified that Obamacare defines full-time employees as those working 30 hours or more per week and that on Dec. 31 temporary part-time employees will be cut back to 25 hours. The move will save an estimated $6 million.

I'll bet all these educators voted for obama.

Regarding the bolded portion above: This is a view I definitely disagree with. It's not a question of not going far "enough". It's not going in the right direction at all. It's pushing us, even harder, in the wrong direction. First do no harm.

So they'll get improved Medicaid, dingbats. Read something, fear mongered chumps of the greedy rich. Cheaper than ER care...
