Boehner Holds Speaker

Too bad Pelosi didn't win

Maybe the House could actually accomplish something

What was accomplished from 2009 through 2010 when she was speaker???
Was a budget passed? Did they do ANYTHING but line their pockets and spend like there was no tomorrow? And don't mention OBAMACARE! THAT was shoved down our throats behind closed doors....and we're all going to find out soon what that shit's going to do to us!

Tea Party HATES Boehner.
Couldn't muster the votes in the GOP to oust him.

They could muster the votes, they just couldn't justify ousting him with nobody else in the wings. A lot of people hate Boehner right now.

The far right hate him because of fiscal cliff negotiations. Moderate Republicans (who are more likely to forgive and forget) were chewing him a new one over pulling the Sandy relief bill late Tuesday night.

And yet no one can step up? There's NO ONE else? Really?

He looks like the strain is getting the better of him right now.

So you are saying you don't approve of a momumental piece of legislation.
But you can't deny they passed it - something Democrats have been trying to do since Truman and couldn't do it. But Pelosi did.

Sometimes you just have to give the devil his due. That WAS a HUGE deal. I don't like the way they did it. But there is no denying they did it.

That's because most republicans, in the end, are gutless lemming followers...Boner is a perfect representative of that mindset.

I wouldn't venture a judgement on "most" Republicans because I don't know enough about that many. But I have encountered many Republicans who fit that bill.

Well.. accomplish something in order to then read and know what the something is after you accomplish it

If Boehner is bad (which I think many can agree he is) Pelosi is 50X worse

Clearly you have no idea what the Speaker of the House does.

In what way was Pelosi even an option?

You'd think they'd push a repug, not a Dem.

Gonna go out on a limb and suggest that perhaps the Pelosi votes cam from Democrats.

btw - I stand corrected. I believe 7 other Republicans received votes (tha I've been ade aware of) and not 6. But since one was cast for Colin Powell (not eligible since he isn't a member), I hope I'll be excused for this oversight.

Back in the days when a Speaker actually accomplished things?

Obamacare
Stimulus
Repeal of DADT
TARP
Lily Ledbetter Act
Financial Reform
Credit Card Reform
Student Loan Reform
START Treaty

What did Boehner accomplish?

He blocked tax increases on the wealthy for one year, 364 days

The vote just hit 219 (Boehner) to 193 (Pelosi) and 15 (other).

Tea Party takes a hit.

what republicans were even seriously running against him?

alan west got a vote. which is pretty funny.

and the tards whose committee assignments he took away whined and didn't vote for him.

but this is what boehner told his unruly mob:

"If you have come here to see your name in lights or to pass off political victory as some accomplishment, you have come to the wrong place," Boehner said. "The door is right behind you," he added, pointing to the rear of the chamber.

Boehner Back In As Speaker Of The House : The Two-Way : NPR

the 112th passed one-third the amount of legislation that the "do nothing" congress of the late 50s did.
Boehner isn't very good - that's a given.
Just surprised they couldn't come up with anyone better.

Is anyone actually surprised about this? Lockstep Reublicrat morons voted back in Speaker Crybaby.

Put your butthurt aside, conservatives.

Boehner didn't fight a battle he couldn't win last week.

We are in a much improved position now, as evidenced by Obama running off the Hawaii and announcing he was going to refuse to negotiate from here on out.

Boehner has publicly announced that he will no longer negotiate in private with The Won.

That is a smart decision. It's impossible to negotiate in good faith with Obama, so best to have the conversation in public.

lol.. is that what you think?

it's because he can't control his caucus so he can't make promises.

I suppose it never occurred to you most of the legislation was socialist and economic disaster crap. Thank goodness most of it didn't pass!

How come reading stupid shit on this board makes me laugh so much?

Nancy Pelosi: The Most Effective Speaker of the House in History | Alternet

We’re looking at an extraordinary set of accomplishments over a brief period of time,” said Norman Ornstein, resident scholar at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. “She ranks with the most consequential speakers, certainly in the last 75 years.”

Pelosi faced a House so divided along party lines that she couldn’t count on a single Republican vote for legislation–which means that she had to wrangle fellow Democrats to demonstrate a discipline and unity they have not been famous for. Out of that unity emerged a record of public policy triumphs unmatched since the Great Society legislation of the 1960s, according to University of Oklahoma political science professor Cindy Simon Rosenthal. “And much of it is because of her,” says Rosenthal.
