Oh, my!

David Lewis, a 26 year old Tea Party activist believes the man he is mounting a primary challenge against, Speaker of the House Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), is a "socialist."

Appearing on Fox's Your World with Neil Cavuto, Lewis stated that the reason he has decided to challenge Boehner is because he voted to fund Planned Parenthood and for a bill that would have overturned President Obama's health care reform law.

"Well, John Boehner is a socialist. I'm not calling him names," said Lewis, in response to Cavuto's rebuttal that the bill Boehner voted for was already doomed. "Here is someone that refuses to phase out Social Security."

Yeah, sadly only a tiny minority want to do away with the joke that is social security.

Lewis at least in this instance, is 100% accurate.

Well, call me crazy but my financial planning for retirement does not include SS. You're welcome Uncle Sam......

Boehner is an establishment repub, The type joined at the hip with democrats. Sure they argue over the little things to keep the crowd fired up.

In the end, there still is no money in the fund.

Boehner is establishment, but not moderate. He's clearly a conservative Republican, just not a revolutionary or hardliner (well, by historic standards he is a hardliner, just not by the standards of his caucus). Still, that makes him somewhat socialist, like almost every American politician.

Lewis's criticism reminds me, perhaps unfairly, of Robert W. Welch Jr.'s claim that President Eisenhower might be a "conscious, dedicated agent of the Communist Conspiracy".

This is the meat of the tea party movement.

Everyone that doesn't toe their line is to be demonized.

They are no different than the uber-Christians that once had their choke hold over the GOP.

I'm not a tea party member or supporter, but I'm still trying to figure out how social security isn't an example of socialism.

Nah. We are still in Primary Mode, which is the best time to do the Laundry. We will come together for the Great Exorcism. Count on it. :D

Moderation like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Given the result of the first negotiation one could easily argue moderation.

Look at it as a Safety Net. A safety net with allot of holes in it in need of repair.

Do the math and find the difference between putting money into social security, and putting money into even a terrible interest earning savings account.

It's not a safety net with a lot of holes, it's an abject disaster that robs americans.

Until we come up with something more secure, it is what it is.

The Federal Reserve is what controls the value of the Monopoly Money in the first place. That is more of a concern. It determines the value of what you put away.

Couldn't possibly agree more
