Gov. Bobby Jindal asked federal authorities tonight to grant funding for Louisiana National Guard members joining the multi-agency response to the offshore oil spill.

In letters sent late today to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Jindal requested support for up to 6,000 soldiers and airmen for at least 90 days under Title 32 of the U.S. Code, which would allow the Guardsmen to receive military retirement points, health insurance and disability protection.

Piyush Jindal is OBVIOUSLY a Socialist!

I just checked my copy of the Constitution.....

Nowhere in there does it say it is a federal responsibility to clean up oil. So I guess that falls under the 10th Amendment

Don't be a douche. Republicans are not anarchists, as you well know.

The federal government is supposed to address national emergencies. If they're not doing that anymore... what the fuck are we paying them for?

Don't be a douche with your broad brushed generalities. Please show me specifically where our Constitution states that our Federal Government is required to help clean up oils spills.

no. rightwingers aren't anarchists. but they spend a lot of time saying absurd things like "the scariest words you can hear are 'i'm from the federal government and i'm here to help'."

isn't that jindal's rant? if it weren't for the fact that the people of NOLA would be hurt again (and I love NOLA...) i'd say tell jindal he can stick it.

weren't you guys the ones saying FEMA didn't have to do anything during Katrina and it was blanco's responsibility?

just sayin.

i'm glad we can agree though that it is the responsiblity of the government to step in during emergencies. i think that means environmental, catastrophic and economic.

and i promise not to say 'i told you so' about why we shouldn't be drilling offshore.

lol!..

...i get this smarmy stinking republican cheerleader on the AM dial named michael medved...who practically sucks this phony republican fuck jindal's pee-pee frequently..

...I WOULD WAGER BIG THAT RIGHT NOW THIS LYING ZIONIST REPUBLICAN POS, MEDVED, IS WORKING ON THE SPIN WORDING HE WILL EMPLOY DEFENDING JINDAL..

..stfu republicans, as leonard cohen puts it, 'everybody knows'.. ;)

Who would say that the federal government shouldn't have responded to Katrina? :eusa_eh:
I've never heard anyone, conservative or otherwise, say that.

Um... edit to say that I missed VA's previous post and apparently HE says it. Sheesh.

A. The National Guard/Soldiers/Airman isn't equipped to clean up this oil spill. They are equipped to keep the peace and for search and rescue.

B. The Constitution doesn't include Title 32 of the U.S. Code. But then, if Title 32 of the U.S. Code contradicted or contravened the US Constitution, then it wouldn't be upheld.

C. The precedent for keeping the peace in Southern LA was set by Republican President Bush after Katrina: Why should anyone be surprised now, if a Republican LA Governor used the same satute to keep the peace in light of another disaster?

D. Who the fuck is Oliver Willis?

As an aside, has anyone else noticed those BP commercials telling just how safe drilling for oil off our shores is these days, have somehow disappeared from the airwaves?:eusa_shhh:

No guarantees in life, bud........EXCEPT:

If its man-made, then you can count on it falling out of the sky, sinking, exploding, or falling over.

But go ahead, and put a political spin on it.....that will make it better.

Article I, Section 9, Clause 2:
"The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

This clause has been extrapolated over time, after decisions like Ex Parte Milligan, to include national disasters.

Yesterday, the Obama himself declared the spill "a disaster of national significance":

Jindal's Rant? I don't know, do you have any quotes from Jindal like, "the scariest words you can hear are 'i'm from the federal government and i'm here to help'?"

Frankly, I'd rather not hear from anyone in the federal government until I'm missing a limb.

FUCK that douche. He gives Blanco crap for taking too long to declare an emergency, and that FUCK TOOK 7 DAYS.

RECALL! RECALL! RECALL! RECALL! RECALL! RECALL! RECALL! RECALL! RECALL!

You forgot to mention that righties don't see a hurricane swallowing NOLA as a 'national emergency' - its something for the locals to handle, not the feds, right!

I think it's in our "General Welfare" to keep this oil spill contained and to clean it up and the accident happened out in federal waters after all.

but it is a political issue. the right is incensed when any pro-environmental position is taken. drill baby drill?

yay! i look forward to BP paying for the clean up. i just wonder how they are going to restore the lives of the people who make their living off of the sea and the entire lifestyle that they've developed over generations. how does a father teach his son to shrimp if they can't go shrimping?

THIS is why the 'left' says that you can't be doing this stuff.... especially not to enrich some giant multinational oil company.

but tell us again how far left Obama is.

Yep. And generating energy isn't an easy or safe business. Yet... we have folks sitting behind their electric-powered computers, where energy is generated on the backs of coalminers and nuclear operators, where oil was used in production, delivery, and maintenance of the computer product... bitching about energy.

Let them move into grass-shacks and "power" their PCs and cell-phones with hamsters and pinwheels. Either that, or admit that they're outlet-suckling hypocrites.

Large problems that individuals can't tackle on their own is what government is for. Government is not to be in our everyday decisions like the Obamanatzies want. Government should have been on top of this disaster from day one. Bush would have been on this better than Obama. Bush was much faster & more effective with disaster response than Obama.

The Obama Administration has completely dropped the ball on this. 17 days later the administration finally considers this a serious problem. Day 1 all available resources should have been expended to close off this oil well. None of these people have oil experience. We had to wait for them to get up to speed on this problem. At this level (OJT) is not an option. 17 days it took for government agencies to coordinate.

On top of this the Obama Admin has let most of our bio-diesel plants fail by playing politics costing 60,000 jobs. That is more jobs than any of the Big 3 Auto manufacturers employ. Wishy washy government policy is causing investors to walk on alternative energy investments.

This was the assessment from the oil industry from the beginning. - BP is trying an unprecedented operation, which is being conducted remotely a mile down on the seabed, it is a long-shot and they admit they may have to resort to drilling relief wells, a process that would take far longer. It is possible that it could take two to three months for a relief well to be drilled. worst-case scenario that would see recovery teams lose total control of the well and cause the oil to start leaking at a much quicker rate.

Relief well drilling operations should have been underway from the beginning. A replacement drilling rig should have been dispatched immediately instead of relying totally on a long-shot.

Obama & his apologist may wish to blame conservatives, but the bottom line is Obama killed the bio-fuel plants that Bush started & chose drill baby drill.

The cause of this disaster was a well blow-out. This is caused when a combination of well control systems fail. Primarily drilling mud hydrostatics, blow-out preventer's, and formation pore pressure is greater than the well-bore pressure at depth.

This disaster will grow larger than most people can imagine. 25% of our sea food lost & our largest oil & shipping channels closed.
