Blaggo gets sentenced to 14 years/has to turn himself in in Feb

While Blago was the very type of politician I despise (a meddling, central planner mentality who thinks he knows what's best for others), I have to wonder what I would have done had I been on that jury. Certainly, I don't know the whole story...I WASN'T on the jury and I haven't even followed the trial. But, from what I've read, two things are true:
1) Blago did not take anything that didn't belong to him; and
2) He did not hurt anyone else, financially or otherwise.
If those things are true, I could certainly agree Blago is an entitled, arrogant dumbshit, but were his statements worthy of 14 years in prison...three hots and a cot on the taxpayer's dime? I'm not so sure.

LMAO...How could you suggest these are victim-less crimes???

For one, the guy tried to sell Obama's senate seat, which affects everyone in the entire country. Its as criminal as can be.

I admit I don't know everything he was charged with. Specifically, what action did he take that victimized another? Did he actually try to sell the seat he was obligated to fill, or did he just talk about it? Was he looking for cash or political allies? I don't know all the details but it seems to me a guy should have actually hurt someone before he spends time in a Federal prison.

It scares me to know this is the way our justice system works. ...... From everything I can see, he was proven guilty of running his mouth about things he would like to do. l.

The fuckers have made it a federal crime to run your mouth.

He has provided corrupt federal bureaucrats an opportunity to get promoted and to get pay raises. Public relations considerations will preven the court of appeals from reversing the "conviction".

there were a long list of egregious offenses that I cannot recall for the moment, but the most flagrant offense, that's been widely publicized was him looking to benefit financially, in some way for appointing someone to Obama's vacated Senate seat. In my opinion, that in it of itself is a serious enough crime, and the only reason no one was hurt is he got caught.

Look, the only way he is getting a pardon or a commutation is if Obama does it on the last day of his presidency before handing over power to the Republicans. Because then everyone will be focused on other things and wont notice.

Blago's fatal act was committing a crime and getting caught. End of story. Unsubscribe.

and yet pelosi&reid get away with all of those multi-million dollar bribes they gave out during the Chewbacca Health-Care debacle. but when a republican bribes for votes, he goes to jail !!!

Not enough, but I hope he stays there the entire time. Thanks for the heads up.

If it was Obama's second term you could be money on him being pardoned, same as scooter libby. That being said I will be very surprised if he is not pardoned before half of his sentence is completed.

Thats the way america works. Its a utopia for rich people, if your poor your just fucked.

If the Republicans want Blago to serve some good years, they should relax and let Obama get an easy win. Then he won't be pressured to let Blago off the hook during his next 4 years.
However, if you guys somehow manage to defeat Obama next year, then Blago skates...as there'll be nothing to lose.

Your call guys. :D

Blagojevich gets 14 years.......

..........because the federal judicial system is corrupt to its core and the populace is zombified

Blagojevich Convicted, But Was He Really Guilty?

The conviction of former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich represents a courtroom victory for United States Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald after a series of defeats, but to get this win, Fitzgerald had to convince a jury that sharp-elbowed politics is something for which a man should spend time in prison."

.

I agree. its excessive, he got what 4 times what anyone before him who committed similar offenses

I will say Blago didn't help himself. The Feds place a premium on remorse.

So, you're saying that if Blago gets an early "get out of jail free card," we can get President Obama dumped?

Good trade!

I'd personally escort Blago out to meet his parole officer tonight! (and the scumbag doesn't even go IN until February!)

This is our fourth governor sentenced to prison for corruption since the 70's, I think he should have got at least 25 years. We need to send a message to any other corrupt or potentially corrupt politicians in this state.

I have to say... I think it was a bit harsh as well.

He was a Dem.

Will Obama pardon him?

Ps. I don't have a link. I'm at Red Lobster on my phone. Was sitting at the bar having lunch and seen it on Fox News.

I'm absolutely thrilled as an Illinois resident, but sadly Obama will probably pardon him and progressives will defend it 100%.

I hope they get Jessie Jackson Jr. next.
