Think of what the Hoover Dam (provided by the tax payer) does for business in the Southwest (which would not exist without the Hoover Dam). Or think of what the national interstate (supplied by the taxpayer) does for shipping and commerce. Or think of what the energy grids and water treatment plants or the entire infrastructure of the modern industrial state does for business. Or what about the legal system which protects private property? Have you ever studied the costs associated with this or the public tax dollars required? Or what about the money it takes to protect the financial system so that billions of transactions can take place in one day? Or what about the subsidies and bailouts that the taxpayer has given to business forever? Or what about FDIC insurance which the private sector craves to protect its money?

There is a massive infrastructure which makes profit possible, 90% of which you cannot name. If your party had the honesty and courage to name all of the PUBLIC things upon which profit depends, your criticism would not seem so ironic, true though it is.

General Motors would likely still be around had it gone through a Bankruptcy reorganization as well, and guess when, they would not owe the Tax Payer Billions.

Had GM gone through the normal bankruptcy, there would have been a great many companies that supply auto parts that would have gone bankrupt whether GM made it or not. That is why Toyota and other foriegn manufactures lobbied for the government to do what it did to keep GM from going through normal bankruptcy.

Speculation.
They weren't going to throw away all their parts and go out of business because GM invented a new way to make/repair cars.. The vehicle remains the same. The parts remain the same, repairs remain the same and the people remain the same.

obama didn't "save" anything. He stole the company from the shareholders and gave it to the UAW..obama LOVES unions.

If GM had been allowed to go into Chapter 11, it would have not only survived, it would probably be thriving right now. Make no mistake, Obama didn't save the US auto industry, it saved the United Auto Worker's Union and their lucretive pay and benefits. And the taxpayers got stuck with the bill.

the bankruptcy wasn't "normal" because Obama used taxpayer money to engineer the bankruptcy in his favor.....those auto supply/dealerships that didn't support him and the union are the ones that got the shaft...

They did go bankrupt. That's how they survived. That is the whole point of bankrupcy laws, to allow businesses to restructure so they can survive. Romney just wouldnt have dumped billions of dollars down the drain before having them restructure.
