Billions of stimulus money goes other countries to build wind turbans

I hate wind turbans

When you liberals can't defend something you either go on the attack, cursing, calling names or checking typo's and spelling, again demonstrating your total lack of reasonable thought or cognition.

Maybe you should spend your time and give it value by spell checking the 1,500 page no stimulus stimulus bill and after you are done with that you can spell check the 2,000 page health care reform bill from the congress and the other 2,000 page health care bill from the senate. President Obama would probably send you a personal thank you for that.:lol::lol::lol:

Money from the 2009 stimulus bill to help support the renewable energy industry continues to flow overseas, despite Congressional criticism and calls for change, according to a new analysis of the program by the Investigative Reporting Workshop.

The Workshop was the first to report last October that more than 80 percent of the first $1 billion in grants to wind energy companies went to foreign firms. Since then, the administration has stopped making announcements of new grants to wind, solar and geothermal companies, but has handed out another $1 billion, bringing the total given out to $2.1 billion and the total that went to companies based overseas to more than 79 percent.

In fact, the largest grant made under the program so far, a $178 million payment on Dec. 29, went to Babcock & Brown, a bankrupt Australian company that built a Texas wind farm using turbines made by a Japanese company.

The same day the Workshop’s first reported on this story a consortium of American and Chinese companies announced a deal to build a $1.5 billion wind farm in Texas, using imported Chinese turbines. Company officials said they planned to collect $450 million in stimulus grants for the project. The deal would create dozens of jobs in the U.S. and thousands in China. The news provoked outrage among lawmakers, particularly after the Energy Department seemed to take a neutral stance, declining to say whether it would reject such an application.

Investigations | Wind Energy Funds Going Overseas | Investigative Reporting Workshop

Diane Sawyer reported on this, & Chuckie Schumer is now complaining about it. Well, Chuckie--maybe next time--if you get another chance---you'll actually read a bill & understand it thouroughly before signing off on it---dumbass. Geez--we pay the taxes on it, China benefits because we have borrowed so much for them, & they get the "green energy" jobs.

How's all that hopey & changey working for ya now?

OK ...since we are done laughing at oreos spelling gaff, I will give an honest response.

The US should be investing heavily in alternate energy technologies. The fact that other nations are ahead of us and we must go overseas to get state of the art wind technology shows we need more than a "drill baby drill" energy policy.

The US can't compete with China and India on manufacturing jobs. That is why we need to take the lead in green technology.

Good post oreo

Do you think that the 2 billion dollars would have been more than sufficient to build a wind turbine plant here putting American constrution workers HERE to work on it and then creating plenty of good long term American jobs, because I sure do.

I saw this story break on the 9th of Feb and I am amazed that this has yet to be reported on the news networks. :cuckoo::cuckoo:

Your butterfingers made my day. Seriously. Thank you for that. I will have Xenophon's image of a turban beanie in my mind for the rest of the evening, and I will cackle all evening long.

As to the deal, I don't see wind tech as real green anyway. They are ugly and noisy and don't produce enough power to make them really worth while. We have them lining both sides of the Columbia all the way from The Dalles all the way up to the WA border (And maybe beyond)

Foisting them on other countries as foreign aid is a lame idea, as it won't do them much good, they won't appreciate it (Quite the reverse) and they won't perform as advertised.

Yes, and they are freezing solid in Minnesota and North Dakoda, but the whole point is the stimulus bill was stated to be a jobs creator in the United States not in foriegn countries. 2 billion down the crapper again.:cuckoo::cuckoo:

Why spend $250,000 - $2 million on a 10" hole in the ground and have a 1 in 12 chance of finding oil (while putting dozens of Americans to work) when you can send that same money overseas, putting hundreds of foreigners to work, and have GREEN HOMEGROWN AMERICAN FREE ENERGY!

Because Obama sez so that's why.

Fucking RETARD.

In other words- why encourage private enterprise to create jobs when the government can create yet more overseas jobs at 5 times the cost with 1/5 the domestic benefit. Because the Candy Bam can.
The Candy Bam can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.

That's a good one. I am amazed that Fox News and all the rest are not on this story like a wet blanket. Good Grief- this is better than the Acorn story. the candy bam man- I won't forget that one.:lol::lol::lol:

The premise for selling the public on going green was the creation of American jobs. It appears they are being created- overseas.

Obama proposes collecting over $30 billion from the U.S. petroleum industry because he sees no reason for its continued viability since the intention is to wean ourselves from a petroleum based economy. These are the funds he expects to use to build a "green" economy.

The effect will be tens of thousands of jobs lost in the U.S. petroleum sector, and the creation of scores of overseas jobs. In the meantime domestic oil production will fall and imports will rise.

It's all so totally fucked up beyond belief.

Yes and just wait until he goes after the coal industry and puts millions upon millions out of work in America. I hope that everyone still has their tents and sleeping bags ready because we are gonna get there pretty soon. But don't fret too much we will have health care, just not a roof over our heads or food to eat.:lol:

I realize such....doesn't make it right or even interesting or give someone an argument to argue on this debate board....

argue whether we should drill or not...give the pros and cons for it....argue whether we can get all the shale oil out profitably and without ruining our drinking water

argue whether there even is enough oil here to even make any kind of an impact of not needing foreign oil still...

ARGUE the arguments on the topic or even argue that the Democrats have stopped some of this drilling here or the Greens have stopped it but for Christ sake, blaming Obama is just plain silly.

Actually, Obama recently made remarks that appear to support the coal industry.

"The task force will focus on ways to capture and store carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants. "Rapid development and deployment of clean coal technologies, particularly carbon capture and storage (CCS), will help position the U.S. as a leader in the global clean energy race," the White House said."

hey oreo, where did Dickless Cheney invest his money after all those secret energy meetings, I'll give you a hint it wasn't here, try Duabi

Mr Cheney, like any other individual, is welcome to do as he sees fit with HIS OWN money. This money that is going overseas is not, contrary to liberal beliefs 'OBAMA MONEY'.... it is ours! It is taxpayers money. If you are not smart enough to understand that basic fact, you are probably too fucking stupid to participate in any political discussion. Fool.

I'm not necessarily blaming Obama, but I am pointing out his misdirected agenda.

My point is that the President is marginalizing the domestic petroleum industry by claiming it de facto defunct. That in itself is a huge mistake.

I will also point out that the promotion and development of alternatives -be they wind, solar, biomass, ethanol, etc. - is not in and of itself misdirected, but the manner in which the Candy Bam is pursuing his goal of a "green" economy is abjectly convoluted.

I'm not sure the President has yet even exposed himself to blame. He hasn't really accomplished anything.

But he has proven himself to be quite ignorant of the basic economic principals of business operations.

Obama does not well translate his visions into real world practices. He doesn't seem to have a grasp of what it takes to make something from nothing by using assets such as ingenuity, creativity, physical work, manufacturing, production, and marketing.

What he does possess is a drive and desire to create something from nothing by printing money and assembling bureaucracy, something of which adds little to nothing to the gross domestic product (GDP).

And this so called clean coal technology will double or triple the cost of electricity.

We all make spelling & grammar errors, I am not exempt from that--but I didn't just send billions of stimulus money over to other countries to provide "them" with green jobs.

The liberals on this board like Right Winger--would prefer to closely examine my spelling versus what this government is doing to this country.

Its not like Oreo said "Corps-man"

I believe it was corpseman.

At any rate:

Thank You for stating that.

Now can we get back to the topic--which is our government giving billions in grants--out of the stimulus money--to other countries to build WIND TURBINES?--when we could be building right here.

No can do.
The govt can't build any because private industry runs the energy sector.
That would be a socialist:cuckoo: policy.

Your power has to come from big coal and big oil.
You voted for it...over and over and over.

Weird post, since cons think wind energy is a joke anyway.
The Chinese are building wind farms in Texas.

I don't think anyone in the public/private/political arenas ever advocated a "drill baby drill' energy policy exclusive of the promotion and use of alternatives/renewables.

Just sayin'.
Yep. However? The Present system must be kept up to make the latter happen. Liberals and their willing Envirowhacko supporters will kill off the former to force the latter, when the latter will not happen without the former.

And it's got to come from PRIVATE entities. That's where tech comes from. NOT any Force of government, unless you're a fan of China or the Former Soviet...
