Extended unemployment benefits: Senate still one vote short of passing unemployment extension

Senator Brown mentioned the Republicans didn’t care about the deficit when they approved the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, the Medicare drug act that was a gift to the drug companies, and the unfunded billions for the Iraq War.

The total of those three unfunded goodies is near $3 trillion dollars, but the Republicans put a line in the sand at $33 billion for unemployment benefits.

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) also took the floor in favor of the extension of unemployment benefits. He said that US companies are hoarding $1.84 trillion in cash and that those companies are not hiring. He said the unemployment report for May was disappointing and the unemployment numbers are even worse than the 15 million unemployed reported by the government. Senator Harkin said that there are 10 workers for each available job. He mentions that there are 30 million unemployed (actually there are 15 million unemployed and 15 million underemployed) looking for 2.6 million job openings and he is absolutely correct! Here’s a senator who knows that the numbers are even worse than advertised.

Repugs are con artists, they reject unemeployment benefits to people under the pretense thats doing it will increase the deficit, but the question is, where else is the money going to come from but the government? The issue of wealthy inequity shows its ugly head.

The wealthy have unemployment envy.
