ABC News' Nitya Venkataraman Reports: Former President Bill Clinton defended Sen. John McCain's request to delay the first presidential debate, saying McCain did it in "good faith" and pushed organizers to reserve time for economy talk during the debate if the Friday plans move forward.

Appearing on Good Morning America Thursday, Clinton told ABC News' Chris Cuomo that McCain's push to postpone the debate would only be a good political move if both candidates agreed. McCain announced on Wednesday that he would "suspend" his presidential campaign to come to Washington to help negotiate a financial bailout bill.

 could Bill make it more obvious that he wants McCain to win without actually coming out and saying it?

He's looking at 2012 thinking if McCain wins Hillary has a shot...

He's really sinking fast in my opinion....

Oh, God forbid Bill has an opinion different from yours. We all knew the Clintons would want McCain to win, for some obvious reasons and some not-so-obvious reasons. They don't like Obama, they never did.

Bill knows that the only chance he and his wife have at taking back the White House rests on McCain winning this election.

Bill knows that The Maverick and The Maverickette do not play politics. The United States is sacred to them. It comes before EVERYTHING.

No, Bill puts his ambition and politics before his country.

He can't be anymore obvious by wanting McCain to win without supporting the man personally.

He never would upfront though, the people in the Democratic would never forgive Bill and in return never forgive Hillary. Along with that would go her chances at ever being the Democrat nominee.

Exactly. If Obama wins this year, Hillary will never be president.

I just love Billboard!!

Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, who have both sought to distance themselves from the unpopular Bush, sat down with the president at the White House for an hourlong afternoon session that was striking in this brutally partisan season and apparently without precedent. By also including Congress' Democratic and Republican leaders, the meeting gathered nearly all Washington's political power structure at one long table in a small West Wing room.

"All of us around the table ... know we've got to get something done as quickly as possible," Bush told reporters, brought in for only the start of the meeting. Obama and McCain were at distant ends of the oval table, not even in each other's sight lines. Bush, playing host in the middle, was flanked by Congress' two Democratic leaders, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
