Ga. police shut down girls' lemonade stand | GoUpstate.com

A few 14 year old girls set up a lemonade stand, in their yard, to save money for a trip to the water park. A good, old-fashioned American tradition!!! Parents tell kids they can take their trip, BUT, they gotta earn and save their own money first. What a wonderful lesson for these kids.

Oh....but wait. The government got word of it. And the men with guns showed up. And told the girls they hadn't purchased the $50 business license, the $180 peddler's license, and no government official had inspected the lemonade to make sure it's safe, which I'm sure costs a nominal fee.

So the lesson the girls ended up getting instead?

- If you wanna earn money because you don't have any, you first must pay money to the government so the government can approve of you earning money, even if you don't have the money to pay the government to approve of you making some money. Get it?

Have we truly become a country where we are shutting down bake sales? Kid's lemonade stands? I even read where the city and state of New York are about to audit the fan who caught Derek Jeter's 3,000 ball, and gave it back, because the reward he got from the Yankees (signed balls, jerseys and some free tickets) are taxable, and probably worth a LOT of money, thus he owes the NY government money for it now. Word is a PRIVATE company, Budweiser Beer, is going to pay the fan's tax debt to NY for him.

And we thought government tyranny could never happen in America! Little girls wanna save money for a trip, but can't because the government says they can't do it until they pay the government $$ first for permission to earn that money. A fan catches a ball, and unselfishly gives it back, and the privately owned team rewards him with some sports memorabilia and the government hounds immediately smell tax money to be taken. Our country has become a sad shell of it's past glory.
