Palin just added fuel to the fire. I swear when this woman speaks, its like dumping gasoline on a forest fire.

CNN) -- Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden ripped into recent comments by his Republican counterpart that suggested that some places in the U.S. are more "pro-America" than others.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a fundraiser in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday night:

"We believe that the best of America is in the small towns that we get to visit, and in the wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation," she said.

"This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans," Palin added.

On Friday, Palin clarified her comments.

"It's all pro-America. I was just reinforcing the fact that there, where I was, there's good patriotic people there in these rallies, so excited about positive change and reform of government that's coming that they are so appreciative of hearing our message, hearing our plan. Not any one area of America is more pro-America patriotically than others," she said.

At a rally in Mesilla, New Mexico, on Friday, Biden responded to those comments in a vociferous tone.

"I hope it was just a slip on her part and she doesn't really mean it. But she said, it was reported she said, that she likes to visit, 'pro-American' parts of the country," he said to loud boos.

I like Biden, but i hope he isn't saying he is more pro-american than palin.....

The people who hate American are those who believe America owes them something. This includes those who collect welfare, but are able to work; those who want healthcare given to them by the State, but can afford it; those who believe that because they are of a certain religious or ethnic background are afforded certain rights because of who they are.

I don't see where that is so different than Biden saying you have to pay more taxes to be "patriotic". do you?

Yes, I do believe it's different. First of all, Biden did not say you have to pay more taxes to be patriotic. He said that when wealthier citizens pay higher taxes it is an act of patriotism. Just like when soldiers make sacrifices it is an act of patriotism. It doesn't mean that not doing it is not patriotic. However, by stating that some areas are Pro-America and Real America, then it is inherently implied that other areas do not fit that category. The designation is nonsense in the absence of contrast. Furthermore, she goes on to say that they believe the "best" of America is in small towns. Well, being from a town less than half the size of Wasilla, I can tell you that there is good in small towns and some very ugly parts of America in small towns- just like in the cities. Why do they have to pander and divide citizens like this, claiming these citizens are the best or those places are "real America". Real America is all of this. Real America is large cities, small towns, isolated farms, and pre-planned suburbs. Real America is the outdoorsman, the female ceo, the soccer mom, the nascar dad, the college professor, and the slacker student. Real America is black, white, hispanic, asian, muslim, christian, jew, atheist, hindu, buddhist, democrat, republican, liberal, conservative, straight, gay, married, single, and everything else from sea to shining sea. Real America even has a place for ignorant people like her, who don't think all of these things are America.

He said that when wealthier citizens pay higher taxes it is an act of patriotism.

No, it's not patriotism. It's fulfilling a legal requirement. When wealthier citizens give to charities of their choice, THAT'S patriotism and that's decent humanity. Being forced to give up your wealth to benefit those less fortunate is socialism, not patriotism.

Good, then the wealthy should give up a portion of their money willingly to the government or they are making us into socialists. :lol

How about this. What if they gave up their money without complaining. Wouldn't that be patriotic? No one is forcing them to complain. By not complaining, they are demonstrating their desire to benefit the country without reservation. As a matter of fact then, if they want to be patriotic, the very wealthy should vote democrat since that amounts to freely giving away an extra 3% or so of their income for the benefit of the nation. I see now...Rich people- Vote Democrat. It's patriotic! :)

This is by far one of the most retarded posts I've ever read, seriously. "Give us your money, and don't bitch about it." Not only is that socialism, it's pushing communism.

Palin was asked about this today and she actually spoke to reporters! It was an off-the-cuff interview and all, but it was just lousy. She kept rambling on and on and on and on about how she could step in at a moment's notice in case something happened to John. There isn't one conservative, NOT EVEN PEGGY NOONAN, who thinks this woman is anywhere near qualified.

This isn't about experience.

This is about UNDERSTANDING of the issues.

While she was up hunting wolf and reading the latest sports off of the teleprompter, Obama was busy helping people who were lost in life finding their way.

This woman doesn't have a clue about what America is really like. Alaska is only a state because of its oil. The people up there live in a completely different country.

And by the way, if you make 250,000 dollars a year or more, you can call it punishment or socialism or whatever you want, I still have no sympathy. If you have to have a little wounded pride and live off of 5 times the median American income instead of 6 times the median American income then so be it. I'm sure you'll cry all day in your nice car and big house and during your long vacations. You may even cry in your summer home. But if there's a kid who gets a better opportunity for education or doesn't go hungry because of it. Or if scientific research can advance and make our lives better or one soldier doesn't die because we got him all the equipment he needs, then so be it. I'll get over being called a socialist and they'll get over having to settle for a T-bone steak rather than their Porterhouse.

Great post ... I never really thought Alaska, or Hawaii for that matter, as pro-American anyway. Even Nevada wants out of the Union. The woman doesn't have a clue, period. Her arrogance of merely coming onto the scene with a few weeks experience believing she can run the country. The only reason she is considered to be so composed is unfortunately because she is without a clue. Biden and Obama may appear a bit shaky and even nervous at times, but this only shows how much they care about you and I. Hey, wouldn't experience help you better understand the issues? Not trying to split hairs and it is probably in Obama's favor that he lacks experience and can see things as most Americans do...

I'd give half my income to education if I knew it was being spent right and if I could afford it. I think education is the most important investment Americans need to be making right now: not the economy, not war, not health care, but education. It is the key to our future. When I have kids, I want to know that their generation is better than the generation before them.

Funding education is fine with me. Funding welfare so fat, lazy fucks can sit on their couch claiming "disability" is not.

As a jew you don't worry about Isreal getting blown to hell by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as Palin would have you believe, do you? I don't think Israel will receive any special favors from Obama, but we need to start taking care of our country. I suppose it is one of those "you cannot please everyone" situations, and there is no proof they would suffer more under Obama, anyway.

Living in the poor rural south, I have this discussion with a lot of my conservative friends. The problem is, just like it's ridiculous to think that every kid is going to take advantage of the opportunity to get an education, it's ridiculous to think that there won't be people who take advantage of the welfare system. Take this scenario. Two families. They live in a small town. One, is a fat, lazy, bitch who could work but doesn't and instead lives off the state in the form of a housing allowance, food stamps, and free healthcare. The other is a single mom. She was a stay at home mom-very young- when her husband was killed in an accident. She is now working 2 jobs but only making minimum wage and there's no much opportunity in a small town. She has 3 young children and the expenses outweigh her income every month. She also needs healthcare and food stamps and will soon need a housing allowance because they can no longer afford their mortgage.

Now, you have to make a choice. Let both go hungry and without healthcare or provide food and healthcare to both. Which do you choose? Until we get a fool-proof way to catch people gaming the system, we have to determine whether it's more important to allow the undeserving to suffer or the unworthy to reap benefits. I know we don't notice the decent people as much as the lazy ones living off our dime, but it's a bit like a classroom where a teacher remembers the students who were a pain in the ass, but the other 15 who quietly did their work seem to fade from memory.

And by the way, did you notice in regards to education that Obama mentioned parental responsiblity, not just school responsibility. I've been waiting so long for someone to have the balls to say it. If a parent doesn't give a shit about their child's education, then it is a rare occurence when the school can convince the child to give a shit, regardless of whatever goals NCLB has mandated.

I will take issue with you on the statement that Alaska is only a state because of its oil. A little historical review might enlighten you on that.

as for the palin statement, isnt that what they are putting her out there for? to make as many statement inflaming the base? she is a cheerleader and not much more. she is giving everyone one the warm and fuzzies without a happy ending. if a male candidate had performed as poorly as she, had made as many stupid comments, he would have been gone by now. how sexist is it that palin is allowed to get a pass on these comments?
