    1970 was quite a musical year as I recall. What stands out in my memory most was the confusion I had about the Beatles. They had "Hey Jude" on the charts at the same time they also had "Long and Winding Road" meanwhile Paul and Wings had the Beatlesque "Maybe I'm Amazed" on the charts, and George had his "My Sweet Lord" there too.

    Probably all of these other solo songs by these guys for the next few years after '70 would have been Beatles songs had the band not broken up, because clearly all four guys had these songs already prior.

    But for me the best stuff wasn't on the charts, it was in the albums. Stuff you would only hear if you bought the album, not on the radio.

    And really it's still that way today. The "best songs" are likely ones you have never heard.
