Bernie Sanders's Highly Sensible Plan to Turn Post Offices Into Banks

Another liberal Democrat friend of mine, who still plans to vote for Hillary,
pointed out this plan of Bernie Sanders to revamp Post Offices as Banks.

Bernie Sanders has a plan to reinvent the post office. Hillary Clinton should steal it.

I thought revamping the PO and VA would make good jobs for Veterans.
If any money is lost in the transition, it would go toward Vets anyway.
With the right people in charge, surely they could make one of these ideas work.

Bernie Sanders has a pretty revolutionary idea to change America’s post offices

Why not create jobs for Vets saving historic sites and businesses by turning them
into schools for on the job training in production and management. Why not revamp
the VA to provide sustainable health care through medical schools and internships, etc.

The Post Office already loses enough money. Why do you want to lose more with this stupid bank idea?

Link ? Did you just get here ? The PO has been bleeding money for years.

They've struggled because of damn Republican's, who's goal is to privatize the postal service.

Contrary to popular belief, the Postal Service does not rely on taxpayer funds to function. However, because it is a government agency, Congress is able to demand that they provide universal coverage, and maximum service, regardless of cost – while at the same time refusing to allow them to make the tough business decisions that companies regularly face. Last year, ten postal workers went on a hunger strike to bring attention to a ridiculous requirement, instituted by Congress in 2006, that the Postal Service prefund its future retirees’ health benefits to the tune of over $5 billion a year (a requirement not present in any other government agency, and rarely seen in the private sector). These expenses have brought on the continual state of crisis that the Postal Service has been in for the last few years. Eighty percent of post offices lose money – but they are unable to shut these buildings down because few legislators want to answer to their constituents about why their local post office has closed.

Just as the decline of railroads forced the Postal Service to adapt in the 1970s, they are now again at a point where they must undergo major transformations – and luckily, there are plenty of ways to improve and modernize their services.

Like It Or Not, The US Postal Service Isn't Going Away Anytime Soon

Hmm, hey Bernie, will these post office banks in low income areas require that people show ID before cashing their checks?

And did you read your link?

Due to the seasonality of its business, the Postal Service has historically experienced lower revenue during the third quarter of each year.

And they still lose money.
Do you need a link for every quarterly loss? LOL!

It may surprise you to learn that the largest bank by number of customers and branch network is the French post office, who call their bank 'La Banque Postale'.

The French Post Office makes a profit, and one of the biggest reasons is its banking operation:

The company said its revenue growth during a “persistently difficult” economy was mainly driven by its GeoPost international parcel business, as well as its banking division, La Banque Postale.

La Poste profits down 17.7%, GeoPost and banking limits decline « Post & Parcel

What makes you think they would lose money on the bank idea?

A government run bank. Are you kidding?
See post 17. Even in a tough economy, the French post office is in the black, mainly because of the profits from its banking operation.

So, no, I am not kidding. Are you? It's a BANK.

That's awesome. Can't wait for Sanders to push the post office bank to make subprime loans in bad neighborhoods. Because it's the right thing to do. LOL!

La Banque Postale’s income grew 1.8% to EUR 5.7bn, despite “unfavourable” interest rates, with the retail banking division seeing growth of 1.2%, and asset management division achieving a 10.3% growth in net banking income. The unit’s insurance division also saw significant growth, with its net banking income up 13% year-on-year. Operating profit for La Banque Postale grew 16% to EUR 842m.

La Poste profits down 17.7%, GeoPost and banking limits decline « Post & Parcel

Any corporation would love those numbers, even in a good economy.
