Not really sampling isn't that precise, especially when they're oversampling certain states.

If one wanted an accurate picture of the current state of the race one would pay more attention to the polling in the early states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina) where :

Iowa RCP Avg : Biden +3.7 over Sanders
New Hampshire RCP Avg: Sanders +1.3 over Biden
Nevada RCP Avg : Biden +5.7 over Sanders
South Carolina Rcp Avg: Biden +17 over Sanders

Looks to me like Uncle Joe is still in a fairly comfortable lead, we'll see I suppose.

Before you "Feel the Bern" fanatics get all excited and do something you'll regret later...

The CNN poll is a NATIONAL poll, the Democrat Nomination is decided STATE BY STATE with 48 states and the District of Columbia being decided on a WINNER TAKE ALL basis.

National polls don't mean all that much because they can't account for a candidate leading in one state by a landslide (say California) which doesn't translate into a significant advantage in terms of delegates.

The other factor they don't account for is MOMENTUM where winners of early states tend to build an advantage in subsequent state primaries/caucuses.

That being said, it's not bad news Bernie, it's just not the OMG WE GONNA WIN! news that fanboys are going to make it out to be.

The election was not conducting during "most of 2016". The election took place in November. Pollsters aren't supposed to guess November numbers in July.
