Berkeley Bans Natural Gas

They must like blackouts and living in tents?
No nukes, no solar, no wind, no oil, and now no gas?! They are really stupid.

Much better to cook on dried human waste. Just ask some of those in other countries. Who knows it might even add a special flavor.

There is nothing wrong in principle with natural gas in areas where it is available.

It should be a lot cheaper than electricity, and your kitchen range/oven, clothes dryer, and water heater should all be powered by natural gas as well as the main furnace that heats your home, if you have the service.

And that's the problem. It's a service, and there's an automatic civil commitment to a psychiatric hospital and a city-hall confiscation of your home & property if you have any complaints about the service.

In practice, people have a poorly ventilated gas furnace with an inadequate chimney prone to downdraft in cold and wet weather, and the whole house becomes stuffy with products of incomplete combustion and exhausted of breathable air if the windows are left closed all night.

Other appliances are rarely connected to residential gas service even when it is available, and people run up a gigantic electric bill drying their clothes, and cook on a shitty electric glass or coil-burner cooktop in the kitchen, when the professionals all cook with gas in the kitchen.

The city-hall boiler-room politics and the general shittiness of natural gas service make it too wasteful and inefficient for the average family economy.

Attached photo: metered municipal gas service for a commercial retail strip mall. The back doors are always left ajar during work hours because it's too stuffy to breathe in those buildings.

Everything that can go wrong does go wrong with city hall gas service, and more trouble on top of it than you'd ever imagine.
