BBC News - Japan downgraded by Moody s amid rising fears over debt

Moody's has cut Japan's credit rating by one notch over rising doubts about its ability to reduce debt levels.

The decision by the ratings agency sent the yen to a seven-year low against the US dollar.

The downgrade comes less than a two weeks before a snap general election called by prime minister Shinzo Abe.

Rest at link.

Funny, Japan was once a powerhouse, that people predicted would overtake the US as the great economic power of our times.

Now, they have the highest per capita debt on earth, and they are "dead men walking" fiscally. That a rating agency finally "woke up" to that fact after all these years is stunning.

Expect more downgrades and a Japanese implosion.

We are looking at our future if we don't get our house in order.

Funny, Japan was once a powerhouse...

"Was once"?

Yes. In comparison to where they are headed. In reality, they are living on borrowed time...and money. They are a "powerhouse" today just like Madoff was "rich".

Smoke and mirrors.

You are lost in hyperbole.

I doubt that. The math doesn't lie. There is simply no way for Japan to crawl out from under its debt. But, don't feel too bad for Japan. Many other countries in the world are facing the same fate.

Japan is just the worst example...as of now. Others will follow.

The third largest economy in the world is still a "powerhouse," you nitwit.

If an economy is built like a house of straw, it isn't a "powerhouse". The only thing stopping Japan from falling to junk bond status is the fear of damaging the world economy.

But even that fear won't hold off reality forever.

This reduction in rating was just another sign showing us the certainty of Japans future.

Hey, if you can't understand the difference between the present and speculation about the future, that's your problem.

I suppose it is. But, in reality almost all threads here deal with the future, based on present facts.

And those present facts show a huge danger for the future of Japan.
