Palestinians in Gaza need only look 80 kilometers west to the gilded Bantustans of the Palestinian Authority (PA) to see what they would get if they agreed to disarm. After years of fruitless negotiations, Israel has rewarded Palestinians living under the rule of PA President Mahmoud Abbas with the record growth of Jewish settlements, major new land annexations, nightly house raids, and the constant humiliation and dangers of daily interactions with Israeli soldiers and fanatical Jewish settlers. Rather than resist the occupation, Abbas’s Western-trained security forces coordinate directly with the occupying Israeli army, assisting Israel in the arrest and even torture of fellow Palestinians, including the leadership of rival political factions.

As punishing as life in Gaza might be, the West Bank model does not offer a terribly attractive alternative. Yet this is exactly the kind of “solution” the Israeli government seeks to impose on Gaza. As former Interior Minister Yuval Steinitz declared last year, “We want more than a ceasefire, we want the demilitarization of Gaza... Gaza will be exactly like [the West Bank city of] Ramallah.”

For Israel, war is no longer an option. It is a way of life.

and this is where our tax dollars are going , and everyone turns a blind eye to their terrorist activities. We American are supporting terrorists.

Israel strikes Gaza in response to rocket fire, no injuries

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says its warplanes have struck the Gaza Strip in response to a rocket launched from the coastal area into southern Israel.

The military says the rocket landed early Thursday in an open area near the city of Ashkelon. It says Israeli warplanes retaliated by targeting a "terror infrastructure" in the Palestinian territory.

Palestinian media in Gaza reported two Israeli airstrikes, in the north and central Gaza Strip. One targeted a watchtower near the Gaza-Israel border and the other a militant training site.

What do the Palestinians. especially the Christians, have to do with the actions of a Kuwaiti that was naturalized U.S.?

Crappy piece of journalist opinion that OP link was.. No wonder P.F. liked it..

Instead of accepting Hamas 10 year truce -- Israel and it's evil allies decided on a 51 day war... WHAT -- ANOTHER 10 year truce? Where is THIS ONE? By the same guy who was angered that the USA took out that great Muslim warrior bin Laden?

So many offers of 10 year truces -- that appear only in the NYTimes Op Ed page.. Last year's war had NOTHING to do with miles of military tunnels under Israel or rocket attacks == did it??

Snore........

A blockade is an act of war. The rockets are a response to that aggression.

The tunnels were not used to attack civilians. They were only used to take out attacking military forces. A legitimate form of defense by any standards.

Israel rejects a truce because they would not be able to steal any more land.

I find it funny how Israel can do anything to protect Israelites, but Hamas can't. They are terrorists when Israel is not.

The particular blockade you're referring to is a defensive act to prevent Islamic terrorism. The Hamas tunnel rats make no distinction between civilians and the military.

As much as you wish to flail your pom poms for your Death Cult heroes of Hamas, read their Charter for the reason why they continue to wage war against Israel.

Good point there Penelope.. Why WEREN'T Gazans provided with safe zones, bomb shelters, and evac plans? WHY were they told to stay in place during hostilities? Where are the civil defense priorities of Hamas for "the next war" ???

The only place to go is down, can't go up or out to sea, and they are fenced it. As you are aware Gaza is the most densely populated place on earth.

Even in densely populated areas, a few bomb shelters can be built. Somehow they find the space to build tunnels.
