Make sure you know what the Hell you are talking about.

This is an assault rifle.

However, this is not an assault rifle.

If you aren't able to tell the difference, then you're right about one thing. These pictures won't show the difference. Because the difference is not distinguishable from the outer cosmetic qualities of each weapon. If you think the second one should be called an assault rifle, then you have to call this an assault rifle too.

Now, you see a difference between the two, right? WRONG! There is no difference in operation of either one, other than cosmetics. Here, meet the AR-15

That's it! That's an AR-15. For the most part, everything else that you see in the above pictures are cosmetic additions. An AR-15 is a SEMIautomatic firing weapon. That is distinctly different than automatic fire, and is NOT an assault weapon. While using different technology, the trigger pull of an AR-15 has the same overall affect as pulling the trigger of this.

So, if you're going to babble on about banning "assault" weapons, then know what you're talking about. Because the vast majority of people who want assault weapons bans don't even know the first thing about guns in the first place. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk in the first place.

An AR15 is a shorter, semi-auto version of the full-auto M16. Basically an M16 for civilians...but with a different name.

And for a bonus 10 points....who can tell us what the "AR" in AR-15 stands for????

"Assault weapon" is a legal term. An assault weapon is whatever the law says it is. And the law says an assault weapon is whatever flavor Hollywood and the media have made infamous.

So when it comes to gun control, the law is incredibly capricious, which is not what you want your laws to be.

It stands for Assault Rifle of course, However in it's civilian single fire version it does not meet the legal Definition of an Assault Rifle because the law requires it not be full auto Capable.

Did you not read the part about knowing what the hell you're talking about?

A knife can be an "assault weapon". Anything you use as a weapon..to assault someone...is an assault weapon. They dont make a massage weapon. Or swim weapon. Or a drive weapon. Weapons are only for two things: Assault and Defense.

Armalite is the name of a company. Which, btw, makes an AR-10, a badass weapon.

:eusa_clap:

Must mean, "Army," right? Maybe it means "assault rifle." Or.....well.....maybe....nah....there's no way it stands for the original manufacturer Armalite!

"Attack dog" used to mean a dog that was trained to behave a specific way. But it can be changed by law to mean a specific breed which Hollywood and the media has convinced the public is a dangerous breed.

Just so with "assault weapon". It has gone from a well-defined behavior of a weapon to whatever the nervous nellies decide it is.

AR-15 basic model, not an assault weapon. AR-15 with a flash suppressor, OMG WE GOTTA BAN THAT!

Yes which makes the AR-15. That is where the AR comes from.

Except case law supported by 5 different Supreme Court rulings ( at least 5) define the 2nd as protecting the type of weapon an AR-15 is. Specifically military style weapons in use or of common use to the military.

Further case law defines the 2nd as an individual right not associated with membership in a militia.

Any new assault weapon ban is Unconstitutional unless the Supreme Court rules against established precedent.

This is great! Those who cannot reconcile the desire to be entertained by things that can ( and do ) kill people really fast and really easy.......with common sense.....are eager to tell us all how everything we know about those things that kill really fast and really easy...is dead fucking wrong.

Over.....and over....and over.

As if defining an assault rifle as an automatic fire weapon will make us all feel better about the fact that Yidnar, Matthew, Warbler, LGS, Big Derp and Li'l Derp can get their fuck-all crazy hands on a machine that can shoot 30 bullets in 15 seconds.

Funny thing about the word "inalienable". It means I don't have to justify myself before I am allowed to exercise my rights.

If I want midget porn and a hot gun, you have to justify yourself to stop me.

Holly shit! There's a "thing" out there killing people? We must stop it! Silly me, I always assumed it was people killing other people. Now I learn there are rogue inanimate objects out there reeking havoc?!

Gosh, thanks for bringing this to our attention. We'll all be on the look out...

:cuckoo:

And what machine is that? Like I said, please know what you're talking about. An AR-15 has no such rate of fire.

This entire thread is nothing but an argument about semantics. You may call the gun used to kill 20 first graders anything you like and the result remains the same.

Um, no – not quite.

The Court has made no ruling as to ‘assault weapons’ in general, or the AR 15 in particular. The Court did recognize the authority of the government to regulate weapons considered ‘dangerous and unusual,’ as those regulated by the NFA.

The Court has also ruled that weapons ‘in common use at the time’ are subject to Constitutional protection, specifically, handguns.

The question now is: which category applies to semi-auto weapons such as the AR? Is it ‘dangerous and unusual’ or ‘in common use at the time’?

In the opinion of many it’s the latter – and I’m inclined to agree.

And given there’ll be no new Federal ‘AWB,’ and the tendency of the lower courts to uphold as Constitutional most restrictions and regulations of the states and local jurisdictions, we’ll likely never know.

1) You couldn't be more wrong.

2) Armalite Rifle.
