Beck invokes the Holocaust in Fox News/Obama Administration "War"

when i was 18 i thought i knew everything

now i know i know very little, and am happy with it

for knowledge and wisdom are an ongoing process one can never 100% attain

Aha. Another twenty something know it all.
I'm sorry. I actually took you seriously there. Now that I know this I'll know I can dismiss any thoughts your pimply little ass comes up with.
Now get your hands off your keyboard and back into the books.

I know more at 18 than you have ever and will ever know. Age has nothing to do with knowledge. Knowledge, something by the way that you are clearly lacking.

I think most people would just laugh at such an ignorant statement from your mouth.

Your argument fails in this thread and your other argument in the other thread fails. Go back to the drawing board. Besides, how much "older and wiser" are you than me? :rofl:

Eighteen years old. Thinks he knows everything. Where have we seen that before??

There's this thing called "judgment" that people acquire through the years. Some people never do of course. But for most people working, marrying, having children etc is a maturing experience. They can pick out what's true from what's not based on that experience.
So calling Beck a Holocaust denier simply shows a lack of understanding and judgment. Saying he compared the administration to Nazis because of what he said goes equally.

No one wants to address the very valid point that free speech requires latitude. Once an administration goes after one news source or venue, all of them are on notice. There is no telling what a future administration will look like, nor the mood of the country. If this admin sets a dangerous precedent of suppressing news and views it doesnt like then the next admin wont feel so bad about doing the same.
The media should be kissing Glen Beck's fat tuchas in thanks.

Where exactly is the Obama administration "suppressing" news? Has anyone been prosecuted? Have they forced Fox off the air? That is suppressing the news

Challenging outright lies being broadcast on Fox is not suppressing news

I didn't see this before and I haven't seen this on the board.

"When they're done with Fox, and you decide to speak out on something. The old, 'first they came for the Jews, and I wasn't Jewish'...When they're done with Fox and talk radio, do you really think they're going to leave you alone if you want to ask a tough question."

- Glenn Beck, Glenn Beck Program (October 13)

So Beck has already invoked Godwin's law for us. Question is, does he make a valid point or is this just over-the-top rhetoric?

I'm going with over-the-top rhetoric. I feel this disrespects the holocaust survivors and the victims of the holocaust for him to invoke this in his petty little bullshit. He should apologize for making such comments.

And this is exactly how a simple misunderstanding becomes a full blown argument based on a complete fallacy.

What Beck referred to - as an INTELLIGENT person would spot without having to have it pointed out to them by some anonymous person on the internet is this.

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Beck draws a comparison between the rest of the media standing by and letting Fox get hammered by the Administration as a parallel to the above. Yet again, Beck has a valid point and idiots decide he that, because he mentioned Jews, he was disrespecting the holocaust.

Dogbert, you are seriously fucking stupid at times.

Dogbert excels at talking out of his ass. I'd cut him some slack since he lacks any real world experience.

Maybe I should cut him some slack. I don't know yet. But.... As most normal people recognize - the holocaust was an horrific event, and one that the world must remember and learn from in order to ensure it never happens again. Using the holocaust because Beck mentioned Jews is pathetic. We should never use the holocaust or racism as a stick with which to beat an opponent. Both are far too important to be trivialized by the terminally stupid - on either side of the argument.

Dogbert just logically and completely tore RabontheRun's argument, and that is what Rab comes back with?

Shut up, Rab: you are just stupid, thinking you can keep doing the same thing and get a different result. You mess with Dogbert and every time he kicks your butt. That is never going to change.

Most professionals stand by each other when there is a situation that limits another colleague from doing his/her profession. This is in the professionals' best interest as climate can change and they may find themselves limited in the future. Thus, standing up for integrity of a professional environment is in the best interest of all professionals.

I'm wondering if 'professional' and 'integrity' can even be used in the same sentence as journalist any longer. I have to imagine that the remaining few journalists who still do value the integrity of the profession above almost all have to be pissed off at the lapdog 'journalists'.

the "evidence" you use is BULLSHIT
that depends on if they can back it up or not, now doesnt it

So transcripts, a video, and a picture from the news organization is bullshit? See, you really do need to look at the links before you yell bullshit. I just want an yes or no answer to my questions. Can you give me that? Just two yes or no answers.

I understand you think this is a gotcha question. However, this is what Fox News reported as fact. It's your choice to pick a side in these two cases. The Truth or Fox News. Choose wisely.
fox news does the truth
but, like all news orgs, they make mistakes

fox news does the truth

like debbie does dallas, huh?

I know the quote thank you. The key thing YOU are missing is the fact "Then they came for". That quote goes BEYOND freedom of speech. Those people that they came for didn't just have their freedom of speech taken away, they were killed.

Glenn Beck the self-admitted rodeo clown really was dumb in the quote he used and he used it on purpose. There are PLENTY of better quotes on FREEDOM OF SPEECH that he could of used. Besides, the one you quote is the one Niemöller preferred, not even the original.

Glenn Beck is not a Journalist. He has admitted as such. Besides, most of the great all-time Journalists would be disgusted at the rhetoric that Beck uses.

When Beck has the power of the Goverment behind him, let me know. Until then, your argument has no basis.

You're assuming facts not in evidence. 'They came for'.... it doesn't say what happened to them. LOL.

You claim that Beck, by using this analogy, referenced the Holocaust. He did not. So, Dogbert, you have just done what you accuse Beck of doing. You lied.

Ooooh, ok. They are supposed to wait until Fox has been destroyed and THEN recognize that the Government is out of order. See, I didn't know that bit. I thought we were supposed to defend our freedom while we have them and not wait until they are taken from us to get up off our asses.

I see now why liberals and the rest of us are so very different.

What ignorance to try and defend this self-admitted rodeo clown. You should be ashamed for your dishonest.

And yes, he did reference the holocaust. The original quote focuses exactly on that. When people were taken away due to their political beliefs originally, it did begin the holocaust of killing people including the Jews.

Remember this line:

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Where exactly do you think they went? Disneyland?
