Why is simple. They have to pretend that Barack Obama was not freely elected by a majority of American voters, or they'll have to admit to themselves that their agenda is wrong, that American's don't want their vision of the future.

So....they have to oppose everything he does, not only out of spite, but to keep what few supporters they have left from bolting to a new party. It's all about their appearance...not principle.

Really it goes on and on, finding where Obama and Bush are different in policies is very hard to do.

The truth is the majority of R and D's are just silly. Obama supporters hated Bush, yet Obama has continued virtually every policy and doubled down on many of the worst. Likewise, as you say, Obama is doing virtually the same thing and R's are mad. Although guns and tax raises are certainly huge issues, so is assassinating your own citizen without due process and slaughtering innocent people overseas.
