A couple of centuries ago, Indians living in California understood that the turtle who holds up the earth occasionally gets tired and moves. That is why they never built permanent structures and were ready to move at a moment's notice. Europeans came and ignored them, having their structures reduced to rubble on a regular basis.

Current Californians have either forgotten or ignored what those Indians knew.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) has issued a report on the 112th-year anniversary of the San Francisco Earthquake warning that 7.0 quake on the San Andreas Fault’s big brother, called the Hayward Fault, could create a massive liquefaction event (sandy soils becoming liquid-like) along much of the East Bay periphery.

The Hayward Fault was named California’s “tectonic time bomb” in 2007 by seismologist Tom Brocher, due to the growing risk for 2 million Bay Area people that live above it.

The USGS estimates a main-shock collapse of 2,500 buildings, 800 killed people and 18,000 severe injuries. People stuck in elevators could also die over the following days. Emergency workers would be overwhelmed with more than 22,000 people requiring rescue from stalled elevators.

With water mains broken, secondary shock would include about 400 natural gas fires erupting and potentially destroying 52,000 homes. About 152,000 households would be displaced due to damage or lack of access, causing approximately 411,000 people to be displaced. The estimated total financial loss would be about $82 billion.

"Due" in the time frame of the earth could mean ten thousand years and be but a wink of the eye. On human terms, not enough to raise fears. Nonetheless, the imprudence of our species in building in such places is merely an extension of the other ridiculous practices, such as reproducing at prodigious rates in areas inhospitable to existence.

Well, we now have the ability to build earthquake proof buildings. Doesn't mean all are as profit often gets put ahead of lives in the US.

Meh

I distinctly recall hearing about this horse crap back in the early 70s when I was in grade school....The Big One......

Might happen.... and it might happen five hundred years from now.

Having said that the most mind-numbing k00k fuckedupshit happens almost daily in California these days..... so nothing would surprise me. That state is clearly Ground Zero for fuckepedness.

But it's fun running around calling, "The sky is falling!"

....we should have cut federal aid long ago and put into a savings fund for natural disasters in the US--o, but that would make sense--sorry

And no one should build on the Mississipi flood plain, tornado ally should be emptied of towns, the entire gulf coast and the eastern half of Texas should be emptied because of yearly hurricanes...

Prudent? Yes. Humans should also be sequestering carbon in the Earth.

None of these things is happening and won't happen until after it's too late. Primates are generally lazy animals. Even to their own demise.

Indeed..... but remember almost invariably, all the people who embrace the alarmist view tend to the hysterical.

Man has the ability to adapt and overcome. look at Florida where construction of hurricane resistant homes is possible. Knowing the dangers and planing for them is key. Earth quakes greater than magnitude 8 can pretty much lay waste to any structure man can build. So learning how to forecast them is the key. We cant do this even today. Scientists are learning predictors with each quake that happens on earth and when they place these tectonic stress indicators on the region they find the energy is stored there already. We simply don't know what the trigger is..

Residents in the San Francisco Bay Area are living along a fault that is a “ticking time bomb” that could generate an earthquake that could kill hundreds, according to a report released Wednesday. The U.S. Geological Survey said in a report called the “HayWired Scenario” that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake on Hayward Fault located under Oakland could kill as many as 800 people and injure up to 18,000.

TICK..TICK…TICK … California fault line is ‘tectonic time bomb’ for disastrous earthquake

Well when it blows, it sure will give the leftist snowflakes a real wake up call esp. for the stupid chucks who get offended by everything and anything . .......

bet those who are busy separating by colors won't resist help from the very skin color they claim they hate but that's typical of leftist hypocrites. It's what their Hippie grandparents taught them and taught them how to be.

then there is this

Concerns growing over Yellowstone Supervolcano

Global warming is making it much worse

Can you point to a published study linking air temperature and plate tectonics?
The air does get warmer after the slip strike fault rips open a volcano.... I wonder if the Californians are aware they are sitting on another super volcano? The Long Valley Caldera is similar to Yellowstone.

Here are the differences between them when they go Boom..

The Long Valley eruption left the bishop ash bed and is equivalent to a moderate Yellowstone eruption. If the Hayward Fault goes so could Long Valley.
