Saudi Arabia is not interested in taking over Eastern Syria and wants the US troops to stay, instead.
Previously, Trump planned to hand out the control to Saudi Arabia for a price of 4 billion USD.

"Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman wants the U.S. military to maintain a presence in Syria, despite President Donald Trump’s declaration that American forces will be pulled from the war-torn country in the near future.

“We believe American troops should stay for at least the mid-term, if not the long-term,” he told TIME Thursday in a wide-ranging interview.

Bin Salman said Assad is not likely to be ousted from power. He said he hopes that Assad will not become a “puppet” for Tehran.

“Bashar is staying,” he said. “But I believe that Bashar’s interests is not to let the Iranians do whatever they want they want to do.”"

I don´t agree. Hillary wanted to establish a no-fly zone over Aleppo and if Russia "violated" it, she wanted to impose sanctions or something else diplomatic. That you can extract from one of the presidential debates.
Trump on the other hand announced a new policy on Syria but instead intensified the old one. Shortly after Trump was inaugurated, the US removed the Nusra successor organization HTS from the terror list, participated in another false flag and even directly attacked the Syrian military, while Trump pushed Kurdish forces to attack ISIS there where the Syrian army advances.
