How many OWS protests in front of the WH?
Any fans of his in the area? I'm asking because I just read this bit;
Barry Goldwater would not have dumped Mr. Grenell; he would have told the carping Bible thumpers to go to hell.
The man who was once the voice of American conservatives slammed Pat Robertson for "trying to take the Republican Party and make a religious organization out of it." When Jerry Falwell opposed the appointment of Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court, Goldwater said, "Every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the n----." And, of gays in the military, Goldwater said, "Everyone knows that gays have served honorably in the military since at least the time of Julius Caesar."
After his retirement from the Senate, Goldwater warned that his party was being taken over by a "bunch of kooks." Well, the kooks are in charge now and Mitt Romney knows who is boss.
And I don't believe he'd recognize his own party anymore.

In fact, I can't think of anybody pre-2000 who would recognize today's Republican party.
I doubt if Goldwater would have used the insulting term "bible thumpers". LBJ might have and the degenerate Texan might have exposed himself while he was doing it. Back in the good 'ole days when the only information sources were liberal democrats could get away with anything. Today the democrat anti-religious rhetoric is nothing but the same old bigotry.
"I wouldn't know a libertarian from a sack of weed" would've been a much more honest and true reply...He would laugh at today's "libertarians" for the closet republican nationalists they are.

Todays so-called conservatives dont even know what the word means. They think Ive turned liberal because I believe a woman has a right to an abortion. Thats a decision thats up to the pregnant woman, not up to the pope or some do-gooders or the Religious Right. Its not a conservative issue at all.
Morning Quote: Barry Goldwater on Abortion - Political Ruminations
Goldwater was my first presidential vote. But were he alive today he would be nuanced enough to understand that Romney has no prejudice against gays, simply redefining "marriage," as does a huge majority uf the US electorate.
Lie out your ass? Check. He would laugh at today's "libertarians" for the closet republican nationalists they are.
Please.
Libertines are HARDCORE Leftists.
Rabbi's post on it from the other thread:
'The narco-libertarians are not conservatives. That much is clear. They have much more in common with liberals than you think.
For unilateral nuclear disarmament? Check
For withdrawal of military forces? Check
See the U.S. as imposing its agenda on other countries? Check
See 9/11 as basically the fault of US imperialism? Check
For unrestrained sexuality? Check
For legalized drug use? Check.
And a host of others.'
They are flying under the radar as Republicans (whoring attention) because nobody has vetted Ron Paul on most of these perversions.
At least they have been exposed on USMB!

What was your point ?
I hope the GOP of today is not like the GOP of 2000 that put a moron in as president and elected a bunch of spendhappy dickweeds who started a bunch wars (with the support of the dungheap liberals) and missed key opportunities to put reforms in place that would have made things a lot easier for needy seniors.
I hope to hell we don't look like the GOP of 2000.
Lugar just lost.
Sorry Richard. I appreciate your service, but you have to know when it's time to go.

Holding up Goldwater as someone who would not recognize today's Republican party is so wrong. He'd be leading a Tea Party Rally

Correct assessment. In fact, Goldwater would have created a Tea Party when the progressive compassionate conservative wing of the party surfaced with GHW Bush. As for GW not recognizing his own party what do you think JFK would say about his. In fact one should read speech's delivered by Humphrey. The sad part is the GOP has turned to the left and the freaking left has jumped off the cliff. What a pathetic group.

Lugar has been there WAY too long. And was part of the problem for far too long...became TOO comfy.
Lifetime politician...a HUGE part of what's wrong in the District of Criminals.

Indeed. Today's Republicans occupy the space Democrats of yesteryear used to occupy.
American Democrats are EU-Style Marxist/Socialists and aren't shy about it.

The Left/ concerned trolls are always trying to move the line more left
and then try to call it "center" to cover for their radical policies
No doubt tomorrow the MSM will be all over itself about Lugar's loss and the radical Tea Party- blah blah
