GAZA, (PIC)-- Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman, has described as shameful the Israeli authorities’ arrest of foreign activists on their arrival at Ben Gurion airport.

He said in a statement to the PIC on Sunday that the Israeli step reflects an internal crisis within that “entity” as a result of the growing solidarity campaigns with the Palestinian people.

He charged that such practices were meant to contain the international sympathy with the Palestinian people and cause.

Hundreds of foreign activists planned to travel to the West Bank in solidarity with the Palestinian people via Israeli airports within the annual “Welcome to Palestine” event.

The Israeli authorities feverishly contacted western countries and airlines warning them against carrying those activists. Some of those airlines bowed to pressures and blocked travel of many of them.

If one looks at most of this world, especially the Middle East, one country stands out as a foundation of stability and as a pillar of democracy. And at a time like this, when you have revolution in Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia and Jordan, thank God we have Israel.

Since when does the word of Hamas mean anything? lol.

Israel is scared stiff of Hamas.

Wrong. Israel is scared of "what the world say" since the world is hypocrite. when Israel fights to stop the attack on its civilians, people blaim israel for war crimes. but when Assad killed 10,000 of his own people, the world doesn't give a crap.

But the world is the one who has power, and since Israel cannot do the same it did in 2009, and finish of the problem, the southern Israelis are held captive by the situation.

Israel can easily finish off Hamas in two days, the problem is the hypocrites and haters around the world which will eat it alive while it happens.

Israel is afraid that the world will see the truth. Israel does not want people to see the real Palestine because it does not match the Propaganda.

Gaza starts at 17:30

Israeli authorities were on Monday holding 58 foreigners pending deportation, out of 79 barred from entering the Jewish state on ground they were linked to pro-Palestinian campaign, an official said.

Of the 58 who refused to leave voluntarily, two were being held in detention at the airport, while the other 56 were taken to a prison near Tel Aviv, she said, adding that 10 were due to leave the country later on Monday.

Among those refusing deportation were 43 French nationals, eight Britons, two Italians, three Canadians, one Spanish national and one person from the United States.

Hanan Ashrawi, a leading member of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, said that the activists, "bravely challenged Israeli policies of siege, apartheid and discrimination by attempting to enter Palestine this weekend."

"Such means of popular, nonviolent resistance are inspirational and expose the oppressive and colonialist policies of the Israeli government," she said in a statement.

Ashrawi also urged the campaigners' home countries, "to protect their nationals from persecution and prevent their national airline companies from becoming instruments of Israeli coercion."

An Israeli soldier has been suspended after video footage showed him hitting a foreign pro-Palestinian activist in the face with his gun during a bicycle rally in the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli military.

Footage of the incident posted on YouTube was picked up by Israeli television on Sunday, prompting condemnation from Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister.

"Lieutenant-Colonel Shalom Eisner has been suspended until the conclusion of the inquiry which has been opened," a military spokesman said on Monday.

The assault took place on Saturday during a bicycle ride in the Jordan Valley near Jericho involving Palestinians and foreign activists.

The footage shows a soldier smashing a male demonstrator in the face with the butt of a rifle in an apparently unprovoked attack as soldiers confront protesters.

The demonstrator, reported to be a Danish national, falls to the ground and is then carried away by others at the scene.

"Such behaviour is not characteristic of the soldiers and commanders of the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)," Netanyahu said in a statement released on Sunday. "It has no place in the IDF and the State of Israel."

If there were no video there would be no investigation. If it doesn't go public it didn't happen.
