According to the New York Times, a team of genealogists have discovered the president's slave ancestry.

As the son of a Kenyan father and white American mother, Obama is an African-American in the most literal sense. But until now Obama's African American cred in a more contemporary sense had been a source of debate, since unlike most American blacks he was not thought to have descend directly from enslaved Africans.

However, the researchers say that not only did the president descend from an enslaved African, his ancestor was likely the first ever documented black slave in America. Furthermore, Obama's slave heritage unfurls from perhaps the most unlikely familial line: his white mother.

Look, there have been SOOOOO many "mistakes" made in regard to Obama's past and his heritage by people you'd have thought would know what they're talking about, ie: his publisher, his half brother, his half sister and his grandmother who says she was standing right there when he was born to name a few, that it shouldn't even be pursued any longer.

Obama is an African when it serves him and he had relatives on both sides of the civil war when it serves him.

Obama is the ONLY one allowed to say where he was born despite the fact that I've got to think he couldn't possibly remember WHERE he was born; And those who believe his publisher, grandma, etc are simply RACISTS when their politics are not in line with the his and when they're not simply enchanted by the quaintness of his whole line of bullshit.

The Ancestry.com team used DNA analysis to make the connection, and it also combed through marriage and property records to trace Mr. Obama’s maternal ancestry to the time and place where Mr. Punch lived. The company said records suggested that Mr. Punch fathered children with a white woman, who passed her free status on to those children, giving rise to a family of a slightly different name, the Bunches, that ultimately spawned Mr. Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham.

(CBS News) WASHINGTON -- It's no secret that President Obama comes from a very diverse background.

Now, there's new information about his ancestors.

The surprising connection goes all the way back to the earliest days of colonial America.

It's already been learned that Mr. Obama is related, however distantly, to people as diverse as Warren Buffett, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and George W. Bush.

Now, researchers at Ancestry.com have discovered a startling new connection in his mother's family tree.

The president's diverse roots are widely known to range from Kenya to Kansas, but researchers have found a new link.

"President Obama is the 11th great-grandson of John Punch, who was the first documented African to be enslaved for life in the American colonies," says Joseph Shumway, a genealogist at Ancestry.com.

He says the president's white mother is a direct descendant of the first known slave in the American colonies through a family by the name of Bunch.
