Banks Vs Credit Unions

In these times when the banks are refusing to lend money even to people with excellent credit is that not a great opportunity for credit unions? It is my understanding that credit unions are lending money. Will this wake the banks up? Kick it around.

My thought is that if people started removing money from the banks and started placing that money into the credit unions it might wake the banks up and make them operate in a more efficient manner. Perhaps corporations could come up with the equivalent of the credit union. It seems to be a much better idea than the government owning them.
