Ban Non-Taxpayers From Voting

Taxes and Voting

by Walter E. Williams

Having 121 million Americans completely outside the federal income tax system, it's like throwing chum to political sharks. These Americans become a natural spending constituency for big-spending politicians. After all, if you have no income tax liability, how much do you care about deficits, how much Congress spends and the level of taxation? Political calls for tax cuts and spending restraints have little appeal.

.
Many large families with low incomes, the seriously ill, and military personnel, end up with no tax liability. True, they may not be interested in the deficit, but the privilege and responsibility of voting should not be based on how much money you make.

Everyone pays the sales tax so I'm guessing there aren't a whole lot of Americans who don't pay taxes.

Taxpayer or not we'd still have to abide by the laws the government makes.

Also you'd need a constitutional amendment, good luck with that (and by that I mean I hope you have no luck accomplishing that).

I distinctly remember that when I was making $18k/yr. (Government job), I was paying federal income taxes.

When I was young, working part time (<$6k/yr), I paid federal taxes.

What are they talking about?

It sure isn't working people that aren't paying taxes. I think that these statistics are very misleading.

Everyone pays sales tax, and payroll tax.

And since payroll tax has been being used for things other than Social Security for some time now, payroll taxes are effectively the same as any other tax.

You do realize that it was Republican tax policy that created this condition, right?

Wasn't welfare changed to workfare back in the 90s?

Why are people still blathering about the 'Welfare state''?

We are not and never were a 'Welfare' state.

If anything we've been a totally socialist militarized state that pretends to be a capitalist state, so that the elite can screw everyone thru the privilege called the 'private sector'.

(Not well stated, but you know what I mean)

My, how the retards are out in force today....:cuckoo:

'Walter E Williams' is a 'retard'? :eusa_eh:

Of course, he calls the Marxists for what they are... therefore... a TARD.

I think everybody should toss some coins into the fountain every year at tax time regardless of who you are or what your station is in life. Everyone should pay the same percentage of income tax on their salaries regardless if you make minimum wage or if you draw a very high CEO salary.

Well good for you! If we had all known that is what you thought, well gee, this all would have been settled long ago.
