VIENNA, (PIC)-- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on Israel to free Palestinian political prisoners from its jails, affirming that such a step would boost peace chances in the region.

Ki-moon said in a message delivered on his behalf at an international conference for Palestinian detainees held in Vienna on Monday that the issue of Palestinian detainees is important and urgent.

GAZA, (PIC)-- The ministry of prisoners affairs has welcomed the statement by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in which he called on Israel to free all Palestinian prisoners.

Mohammed Al-Katari, the ministry's undersecretary, said on Wednesday that Ki-moon's statement was a step in the right direction, although it was late.

He said that the statement was important since it was voiced by a renowned and symbolic international figure, however it needs follow up and pressures in order to materialize.

Katari asked the world community to be neutral and to demand the release of Palestinian prisoners as it is demanding the release of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

That would only work if the conflict was resolved, releasing prisoners on both sides when they are both technically in a state of war is madness.

Besides letting the prisoners go will solve what exactly? alot of the prisoners the US let go from Guantanemo went str8 back and rejoined the fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The vast majority of those people are in prison for things like being in the wrong political party, working in the wrong charity, being in peaceful protests.

The rest are in their for defending their country.

They do not see an Arab being nearly as valuable as a Jew. Jews are willing to give up much more for one Jewish life than Arabs are willing to give up for an Arab life.

This has been the case since the dawn of Islam. The value of the people is different in the Judeo/Christian vs Muslim world.

That's why a certain Rabbi stated that many Arab lives are not worth the fingernail of a Jew. They take one prisoner and we pay them hundreds upon hundreds of their own for that one Jew. I disagree with the way this sounds, but agree that this is how Muslims leaders seem to feel about their people.

Jews have traded many live Arab prisoners for the bodies of Jews killed by Arabs.
