Look at the chaos on our roads after people have to learn to pass a driving test. Imagine how bad it would be on the roads if no one had to pass a test?

Let me try this.

unless you own a large property or live in a gated community, your vehicle is using public roads, maintained at public expense, by the state/local government. You are also sharing said road with other citizens.

While the right to travel is a consitutional right, the method of travel is not. If you decide to use a vehicle on public roads, the States have decided you must have a liscense to prove your ability to drive, as well as to ID yourself if an accident occurs. Furthermore it has decided that the vehicle you use must meet minimum requirements to be used on the state controlled roads. By wanting to drive a car to go from A to B, you agree to follow these rules. You can always walk or take other mode of non regulated transport, thus your right to travel is not revoked.

The state, with the backing of the population has decided to control the roads. That being said, I do disagree with HOW the states control the roads, using a vast government buracracy of poor service levels and ancient technology to do this, as well as seeing car fees as a revenue source instead of a method to assure the safety of motorists.

Everyday you pay tax for gasoline or petrol. Fuel companies pay multi-billion dollars tax on profits.

How does paying 25 cents a gallon for gasoline assure the public that you know the basics of operating a vehicle, and that the vehicle meets minimum requirements.
